Yeah, because that’s where FCA stole the idea from - Humvees...

I wish FCA kept true to the humvee latch, because those things can be a bitch when they're old, stale and frozen, then you're left with cuts on your knuckles

They still offer one for the JK, I have mine in a box (never installed). Bought it from dealership 1, but due to some circumstances didn't get it installed there (scheduling issue) and another dealership wouldn't install for me since I didn't buy it there. Then I got the riveter (manual one from Home Depot), but never got around to installing it. I still have it and the riveter brand new in the closet...maybe I should install before i trade my JK or sell it on here. I haven't done it yet as I'm concerned regarding the issues with getting it coded properly to my key (it uses the standard ignition key). Anyways, it is for sale online still for about $150, I won't link though as I'm not sure the rules on this forum and don't want to have any issues regarding deals with current sponsors.

Is there a reason why Jeep does not offer a factory hood lock for the Wrangler? Seems like an obvious thing to do.

I'm thinking electronic locks paired to the remote entry system. The tailgate still locks when the doors are off, why not the gas cap and hood too?

Considering the mesh screen right behind the seven-slot grill, I'm having trouble visualizing how Bolt is going to pull this off? Ideas?

No but on the JL they have added the hood to the alarm system.
I juts bought a 2018 Rubicon JL and it didn't come with a hood alarm. The parts department spent a few hours looking into the availability for a hood alarm in the JL and they came to the conclusion it wasn't an option, and not an option when you build on on the site. I contacted alarm installation companies and they can only alarm the hood if the factory has an alarm pin installed on the hood.

Man, $129 for something that as others have mentioned, should at this point probably come standard, especially in a new and revamped model. Not everyone lives in or only vists nice neighborhoods and even the "safest" of neighborhoods are not impervious to crime. I've never owned a Wrangler, but I remember perusing through other Wrangler forums and reading that Wranglers can be easy targets for battery boosting so it's not something new or recent.

budget hood lock option. master lock 4688D. It's not without limitations, but better than nothing budget option. It's meant for luggage. I got it for $9 on ebay. Could probably be cut with wire cutters and opens with a TSA key that I'm sure is not that hard to get. Just wanted to throw it out there as an option for some. It's what I plan to go with at least for now. Comes in silver, red, blue, and black.

I like yours better arch:

easier to get on and off and not much less in security.

I tried a locking entry door chain inside the hood that I'm going to chuck, likely before MOPAR's lock gets released (which I pre-ordered)...which by the way, has anyone seen pictures of or even know if its mechanism for operation, like its predecessors, disables the under the hood safety latch?

If so, I wonder what grill cutting might be in store for us.

And will be able to use the rig's key, like the higher end JL MOPAR gas cap?

I'd like to see a design that exposes the key when the hood is made ajar and that involes minimal cutting/drilling.

I don't get it either. You still have wiggle your way in and press the hood release. I think this is all a gimmick, because on real humvees, you undo the latches and that's it.
I believe it is a legal requirement to have a secondary hood latch on vehicles.

I purchased the MOPAR hood locks (MOPAR # 82215137). They should be here in a week or two. They key to your FOB supposedly automatically (insert and turn). Even if you need to manually key it; I prefer to have just the one key to open everything...

I already installed the locking gas cap (MOPAR # 82215184), easy-peasy.
