Is there a reason why Jeep does not offer a factory hood lock for the Wrangler? Seems like an obvious thing to do.

Of course there is @MotoOverland. Don't be silly (sarcasm).

Why would MOPAR take the time to design a stupid piece of metal that goes by the grill when instead they can sell you stuff for under the hood that gets stolen and that you have to rebuy from them? Plus, the markup on this gear others might want to steal is higher.

Wait...keying the lock to the key on your Fob is what's taking so much time (sarcasm).

No...they've already done that for their higher end locking gas cap.

Quadratec as of this writing suggests early December 2018 delivery. Mine's been on order since February. That date has been pushed up I think over 4 times by now. I'll be pleasantly surprised if December's date is met.

(This is not a rib against Quadratec. They'd love MOPAR to start sending the product to them so they can ship it out to customers who ordered it.)

I truly don’t understand why the Wrangler never incorporated an interior hood latch lock like pretty much everybody else, they still can keep the latches for nostalgia and still have an interior latch handle so we are not all trying to figure out whose going to release a good latch kit that we can spend $$$ on so we don’t get stuff stolen from under our hood but good luck to the thief that tries to get to that ESS battery ....lol

A good interior hood latch lock keyed off your Fob key...that's what I'd want.

An interior hood latch isn't much of a deterrent when your running exposed, be it windows, doors, top, or top down.

Well you are correct with the top and doors off but I’m sure they could put in a keyed cylinder as standard equipment, I’m sure they could offset the cost of this by not giving us that toolkit or reduce the size of that jerrycan key remote :like:

Just installed locking hood latches and they seem to work great. Was NOT thrilled to learn that the hood was wide open territory for anyone who could figure out the hood latches, not to mention the rash of Wrangler thefts a bit further south that stole 150+ wranglers and took em into Mexico. The first step of all those thefts was to open the hood and cut the alarm horn. Yes, it's another key to fuss with but that's a minor inconvenience to the HUGE increase in Peace Of Mind. Install was really easy. RT-TCZ Stainless Steel Locking Hood Latches $42 on Amazon and comes in black or chrome.

That or a crowbar I suspect;)

(Satire) now why would I go out and buy decent product like the above when I can instead, until someone (MOPAR, BOLT) comes out with a hood lock (because of course asking that your vehicle has a hood lock, in this day and age, is a really big deal (not)) use two of these around the OEM latches:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003P0WM12/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So not only can anyone with a TSA key open them, but that "tough" cable, capable of being cut with medium size wire cutter, will stop even the most hardened criminals.;)

(If my dog looks at these locks with puppy dog eyes they practically open on their own.)

Yes, it looks like it's a round key. It looks good and better then nothing for sure but I worry about the elements. There is no cover for the keyhole, the tumbler pins are exposed. Would definitely need to make sure it stays moisture and rust free. Icing is another problem.

Yes... it does need a separate round key. And yes, you lose the standard latch. But between that choice or having it stolen... well... it took me all of 2 seconds to hit the order button. Is it a perfect solution? Nope. But a imperfect solution is better than no solution.

The latch is supposedly made of stainless steel (we'll see about that) and yes it's open to the elements (another yet-to-be-seen design feature) but here in So-Cal they need to be more fire-proof than rain/sleet/snow proof!

If a better option comes along I can always restore the original latches.

Latches? We don't need no stinkin' latches!!!!

Eric @TJ2018 , just in case I follow your play here, are you happy with the grip (so far at least) these locks have on your hood?

Is it no worse than that of the lockless OEM latches?

Thanks.

I am quite satisfied with the locking latches. If anything they clamp down slightly more than the factory latches, but not so much that there's any metal to metal contact (don't know if that's even possible). The locking mechanism is simple but sturdy. As someone above mentioned it would take a crowbar to pry them off.

They do get my seal of approval :)

Thought I'd add a pic with the lock in the open position. There are plastic spacers behind each piece so there is no metal to paint contact.

One other thing worth mentioning is that you don't have to lock it. It will latch closed just fine without locking. Just in case you only want/need occasional protection but otherwise want unfettered access to your engine bay.
