...and it’s back. Dropped it off at dealer on my way home from work (also when it came in again). Service advisor thinks they’ll just replace the vacuum pump this time but I’ll know more tomorrow.

To be continued...

The same message came up on mine 2 days ago. 576 miles on it. The transmission was stuck in P. Wouldn't shift at all. I couldn't even get off of ACC to OFF. It would start though. My Jeep sat there the entire night with all the dashboard lights on. Had to have it towed to the dealer. When the dealer looked at it they couldn't figure out what the problem was. They called Chrysler to troubleshoot and they couldn't even figure out the issue. The dealer called me to day and said Chrysler wants them to rip the transmission out and send it to them so they can troubleshoot. I don't how I feel about tearing into a brand new Jeep. I hope to come up with a solution tomorrow when I talk with the dealership. I will keep you posted. This is the first Jeep I have ever owned. Here is Chrysler's chance to either become a hero or they may have a not so happy customer. To be continued...

@jpalser - Wow! Best of luck. I haven’t had transmission or electrical problems with either of my 2 previous Jeeps (not that I had them long enough to have problems) not my 2 Rams. I swear I read something similar on this forum to the issue you have with the trans. Hopefully it’s nothing major (not that pulling transmission out of a brand new vehicle isn’t major) but maybe you got a bad trans. Again, good luck and keep us posted on the outcome! I’m hoping to hear some good news on mine tomorrow (err umm later today because I just realized it’s 1am on the east coast).

**Update** Received follow up today from service. They're going to replace the vacuum pump. Hopefully this will have everything fixed for good. Should get the jeep back Saturday or Monday (depending on when the part gets in).

We've been offroading in Moab and Silverton for 2 weeks and have had the ESC and ESS warnings randomly several times. All fuses seem to be seated. When Jeep is turned off and restarted everything is normal. When we get back to Florida next week will have our dealer check it.

Same issue for me but I only had the ESC. All was fine when I turned off and restarted. The issue seems to be fairly common. I don't know if it's the same pump used in other applications; however, a friend of mine has a 2017 Toyota Sienna with a recall on the vacuum pump - NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V211000

I wonder if our Wrangler woes are related...

Dealer called me on friday and said that Chrysler wants them to pull the transmission and send it to them to look at and they are sending a new transmission for the dealer to install in my Jeep. Instead of fighting for a new Jeep I will go ahead and let them do their thing. I know I will be covered with warranty, I just hope that I don't see anymore problems.

So I just picked up the Jeep. They replaced the vacuum pump. They test drove it then test drove it again. Code was gone. I picked it up and drove about 10-15 mins and the damn light came on again.

@JeepCares - the dealership hasn’t been a problem but this Jeep appears to have an issue. I plan on dropping it off again tomorrow. How can FCA get this right? I’ve been in a loaner more than 20% of the time I’ve owned the vehicle. I have 1300 miles and purchased May 29th. Is there anything you can do on your end to assist the dealership?

So I may have narrowed it down. On the invoice, it mentions “vacuum pump produces vacuum, but gets very hot when running.” Since it cleared after I got home, I thought I’d take it for a drive so that I could get a picture (in the event someone didn’t believe it). It didn’t come in as I drove; however, once it sat idle for 30 seconds with the engine running, it came on. Something tells me my Jeep is producing too much heat and causing system issues. A new vacuum pump and a new abs module shouldn’t have the same issue if they are the underlying cause. Sounds to me, based on my mechanics skills of zero, that it’s continuing to get hot and throw the code. Anyone else with this issue figure out how to make it go?

*update* dropped jeep off at dealer this morning. I drove approx 10 miles and the light didn't come on. It was only 77 when I drove over (about 5-6 miles of highway doing 70+ mph). When I got to the dealer, I sat idling for about 10 minutes and the light came on. I absolutely believe the vacuum pump is sensing too much heat. When I turn off the jeep and restart it, the light is off and the message goes away - once it gets hot again, it seems to re-occur. The shop foreman will be looking at it today; however, my service advisor believes they'll need to call FCA engineers to troubleshoot.

Update: Chrysler wants the transmission to investigate what is going on. They sent out a new transmission to replace mine and hopefully will be here tomorrow and installed in the next couple of days. Hoping that I have it back first of next week...Fingers crossed...
