Ok so to start off I have a 18 2 door 6 speed with a 3.6.

I'm planning axle upgrades and a minimum of 37s and a long tavel kit.

I drive the jeep as a daily driver and my job requires off roading and on road driving. I'm looking to swap a.motor into it but I don't want a V8. I'd like to have a diesel swapped into it but I want my 6 speed transmission as it is one of the reason I bought the jeep. Has anyone seen a diesel swap and retain the manuel transmission.

Haven't heard it being done. Love my diesel tho. It's worth the extra doors and auto!

What kind of work requires a jeep and off roading?

I’m almost exactly like you. Got a Jeep because 2dr, manual, and 4WD (Broncos weren’t out so not even a consideration). I’d love to swap a diesel in.

I’m mostly commenting to watch this thread.

I work in the oil and gas industry as a welding inspector on the pipeline. I did 12 years a Welder then became and inspector I still weld and fab on the side

I'm hoping to get some answers. I really want to keep my standard but I want a diesel in it. Lol

Anything is possible. You'll probably need an adapter plate for the transmission, honestly don't know maybe the bolt pattern is the same? If it were me, I think I'd look for an older Dodge Cummins/manual setup.

Not quite off roading, but my work sometimes takes me down forest service roads / old mine roads that don't look much better than an ATV trail. That's normally for surveys or scoping out a potential job site. I used to have to drive along pipelines checking for leaks (temporary dredge pipe, not oil and gas, so leaks are just a water/sand/dirt slurry). Neither of those requires a Jeep, but I've been able to turn around when a full-sized work truck would've needed to back up for miles.

I think a Cummins 4BT swap is what you want. Expensive but you probably already knew that.

Don't bother with a 3.0 ecodisel swap, not worth it. Unfortunately most here will spend more time questioning why rather than being actually helpful.

Yea thats what I was thinking the 4bt and also read somewhere about the 2.8r. But the biggest thing g is retaining the 6 speed
And oh I agree the "Why would you want to do that just put a V8" well a correctly tuned diesel can produce better bottom end torque is why

And that is why I went with a 2dr I had a 14 ram 3500 on 37 for my welding truck and I've been in the mountains where I would consider it off roading because after a snow melt or rain it get pretty crappy lol. But with tight spaces and work space continuing to get small a nice small 4wd is the best bet I've had a tacoma 2 4dr jeeps and a ton of dually for working o&g the 2 Dr is the best pick

You may also want to consider this engine:

https://www.cummins.com/engines/repower

Cummins markets it as being designed for Jeeps and other comparably sized offroad vehicles (smaller and apparently hundreds of pounds lighter than 4BT).

The 6sp AISIN is, as I understand, rated for torque numbers that are only slightly higher than the 3.6 (another way Jeep short changed the manual drivers). I assume you could nevertheless still fit it to a swapped engine with an adapter (I am no engine swap expert).

Stellantis literally detunes the v6 in order for the clutch to survive, but I'm sure diesel torque will be fine? It's not like there aren't numerous examples of them exploding and catching fire behind the lowest powered option available...

Call me crazy, but I'd venture anyone who is thinking about doing an engine swap has already ditched the craptastic liability that is the OEM clutch?
