Thanks for the response! I think checking the alternator is a great idea. This will be the next thing on my list. Its crazy aggravating. We are looking at purchasing a new 22 for my wife but I am concerned that we would end up with 2 that have problems. Thanks again and keep us all updated please! In this video I realize its not locked just no power steering.

Good idea taking a video. What warnings did the dash show? Did it go back to normal when you restarted? Could you read the codes?

Im considering having the alternator rebuilt but wonder what “actually” gets repaired vs buying new. What if the rebuild didn’t address the issue as it’s intermittent, and I move on searching for different issues thinking my alternator is good to go…. Lol

Thanks ?

Any chance you’ve looked at those codes in a factory service manual? They should have a seperate process for each and you could look at the overlap causes.

if you don’t have one, I’ve had good luck with Alldatadiy in the past.
I have not… I remember manuals back in the day but not sure where I’d get one for a JL, I’d buy one. I did visit the website but it looks like you need a monthly membership? Im not sure how it works?

If it is stuck in park there is a fix. This strap is located under a plastic cover at the front of your shifter. Make sure your brake is on; if you pop off the cover and pull the strap it will disengage your Shifter/trans. I was told this feature is so you can have you jeep towed. Once you pull the strap the "P" on the shifter will flash. Pull this strap again and it will lock back in place once you let it go. Now you should be able to restart and shift into gear. I have had to do this a few times while we figure this mess out!

I agree funny but not funny. It will at least get you out of a tight spot if needed. It is unfortunate that this is all too common on our Jeeps. maybe @JeepCares has an answer for us?.

Stumbled upon this thread as I think I've had the _exact_ same problem. 2018 Wrangler JL Rubicon with ~24k miles. It stalled/stuck itself in park a few weeks back. I'm not super savvy with the mechanics these days, so we had it towed to the Jeep service center. Got it back with two new batteries and a ton of warning lights.

The service center was being fussy about it when I said "wtf it was fine two days ago" so I gave up and drove it home. Bunch of electrical issues now (e.g. abs, 4wd, cruise control, collision indicator all not working or saying not working), and just now looking to see if others had similar problems. They were trying to place blame on after market parts (I have a bunch of mopar stuff, a winch, frankly nothing complicated.. mostly official parts or well regarded).

I gotta say, this 2018 has been nothing but issues. It spent weeks in the shop multiple times for a differential issue (that was also a common problem), and I'm now worried this is gonna be a simialr event. Worst part is its out of warranty now and the Jeep service centers rack up charges quickly.

I'm curious to see where you end up, and I'll try to update this thread if I find out anything.

Probably going to fix this, sell the Jeep, and move on at this point. Sad because I've loved Jeep in the past, and this was my first time owning one.

Mine had a quick episode on the way home today but didn’t loose power steering or it happened so quick I didn’t notice.

UPDATE: So after a few trips to the dealership, we replaced both batteries. Both the electrical and steering issues continued. After pouring over these posts and some great information, I decided to replace my alternator. My battery would show 12.4 with the engine off and 13-13.3 while running. At 1800 rpm's my OBD read 12.9. I opted to do the swap myself to save some money. I stepped up to a 220 AMP alternator. So far (fingers crossed) everything is working properly. Usually there has been error codes or something by now so I am cautiously optimistic that this has resolved this issue. The alternator swap is straight forward other than the piston/shock that is located at the base of the tensioner bracket, that thing is a pain! I will post the swap with pictures soon! Good luck everyone!

Awesome, fingers crossed ? How long since the swap? Did you go with Mopar? I’ve been considering a rebuild to save money but not sure with it being an intermittent Issue if all the right fixes would be done.

Tapping Out!! (not really) but after 5 days of trouble free driving with the new alternator, it all started again!! I am soo frustrated. I have even reached out to @JeepCares . So, new batteries (yes both) a new 220 amp alternator. And one useless dealership; while driving all of the dash lights came on and the power steering went out again. I was able to get it home it was just without PS. If I cold fit it on my bass boat I would take it for a long trip in the lake tomorrow!

Sorry to hear, the alternator was my guess??? What to do now? Is it a Short? Mine started after a Steering TSB / Flash but really have no idea at this point.

Thank you for sharing with us, someone has to find a solution… I guess….

Same issues and same frustration level. I’ve owned it for 5 weeks and it’s been in my possession 7 days. The dealer had it for a month and they replaced the steering control module. I got it back Tuesday and today it started everything again. I bypassed the aux battery and replaced the primary one this evening. I drove it for 15 minutes and it all started again. All the dasH lights, no power steering, service shifter, wipers and today it got stuck in 2nd gear and would not shift. I’m at a loss. I feel like the dealer is useless. They have no idea.
