I'm looking at more complete kits on Amazon and came across this adapter. It looks like one side is raised more than the other. Is this something along the lines of what you are talking about?

Please confirm that part number and manufacture. I couldn't find it with just that number on Amazon.

Ran into same issue when I installed my TeraFlex joints.

Angled cup did help (bought this kit: https://www.amazon.com/Ball-Joint-S...lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ASRUK7PUT91UX)

Had to get the joint started, back it off, and keep trying until I found the sweet spot to get it aligned perfectly.

They like to go off-axis when you're tightening. Then you're just forcing the joint against the walls of hole at an odd angle.

It also takes an uncomfortable amount of leverage when you're torquing on the press tool's jack screw. I was nearly bending my cheater bar, but they went in.

Check to see if your AutoZone has additional adapters that they didn’t offer to you. When I did mine I rented two orange boxes, the press kit along with an entire box of adapters I had to mention the second box though.

When I did my ball joints, I bought a Harbor Freight version and used a grinder to the die to get the right angle. Mine was so hard to put the new ball joints back in I was using a 5’ pipe on the end of the rachet.

Update*

Well guys……how does it look? I’m pretty sure I got a bit stuck at the ridge inside the bore again. But with the frozen joints and knowing I cleaned it up a bit with the half round file, I just said f’it and cranked down a bit more on the ratchet. I felt a nice pop (which scared me at first that I broke something) but it smooth sailing getting the rest in from there. Took tips from just about everyone to get her in there. 3 more to go! Appreciate everyone’s help!

Howdy y’all,

Running into another issue and don’t want to send it on this one. So I read on several threads you can put the Jeep in 4H and it will keep some sort of collar attached to the inner rod, allowing me to extract the axle shaft on the passenger side without messing with the FAD. Well, I’m trying to put the axle shaft back in, but I can’t get it to seat all the way back inside. Upon looking into the axle tube, it seems like the collar is slightly shifted to the left, causing the opening the outer axle shaft goes into is closed off a bit. Do I need to open the FAD to push the collar back just a tad to allow the axle shaft to slide back in all the way? Or do I just angle the axle shaft to the right to allow it to go sort of “around” the collar.

Picture below to help explain the issue:

You are going to need to remove the FAD so you can put the collar back on. If you had put the Jeep in 4wd before shutting it off it would of slid the collar over the inner shaft and stayed in place. No big deal, just take care not to tear the gasket when removing. You're almost there!

I think you're going to end up opening up the FAD. Collar's supposed to stay seated on the inner shaft, yours did not.

The Jeep is in 4H right now! That’s why I’m confused right now.

Shoot. Any reason why it didn’t stay seated when switching into 4H?
Not sure, collar would've needed to have been only partially engaged on the inner shaft to end up like yours is. Did you give the wheels a spin to make sure 4H was fully engaged? Might've needed a bit of a spin to make sure the collar splines lined up maybe?
