  1. How "liveable" are RCV front axle shafts?

One of the best accessory products on the market for Jeeps. Expensive, but in this case you do get what you paid for. With Spyntec locking hubs on my JK I run old Superior chromolys and CTM u-joints. RCV can make me a set of the axles that will match up, I'm just waiting for an excuse. šŸ¤£
  2. Passing Inspection after battery change

As another flatulent senior citizen, I usually suggest people move before being subjected to the inspection monster.
  3. Inconsistent backlash measurements

This ^. Filing the mating surface works, or, as I was trained years ago, use a whetstone (for sharpening knives, etc.) and run it over the mating surface. Either way will remove machining and mounting hole tap burrs, leaving a perfectly smooth surface. I'm surprised the Yukon set was an issue...
  4. ARB Compressor under seat

Too many issues with the ARB Dual pump, plus under the seat complaints about noise & vibration. Iā€™m going with a portable dual like EZFlate, etc. Iā€™ve suffered long enough with a Warn PowerPlant.
  5. State Farm PA to NJ = 380% Increase??

Ah, New Jersey! Rarely do things make sense there. It was my home from ā€˜86 - ā€˜00. 14 years of taxes, high cost everything. You couldnā€™t have chained me to post to keep me living there, Iā€™d have chewed off a body part to get west of the Delaware.
  6. Lift vs larger tires for better offroad performance?

Both, donā€™t try to kid yourself.
  7. Power steering fluid for 2023 JL 3.6?

Not on vehicles with electric power steering. Different requirements & fluid spec. Mopar has specā€™s ATF+4 for years otherwise. The Mopar electric P/S fluid is purple and costs a ridiculous amount.
  8. You Get What You Pay For

I live in SW Colorado at 7400 ft. My trail wheeler is an ā€˜09 JKUR 3.8L on 37s. It is gutless at any altitude and thinks you horsepower mad Jeepers are ignoring the fact it doesnā€™t matter in 4LO at 2 mph. (He is 15 years old and rather cranky in his old age.) My ā€˜23 JT daily driver is a 3.6L and...
  9. Appropriate Use of Lockers

Bear in mind your Jeep has an auto locking feature (Brake Lock Differential) whereby the ABS/Traction control system will automatically stop a spinning tire, sending the torque to the wheel with the most grip. It in many cases makes needing to engage either locker unnecessary. Ford has a similar...
  10. 35" vs 37" - Need some advice!

If you are upgrading beyond 33s (285s), from experience I always advise going straight to 37s. The difference in unsprung wright is negligible, usually about 6 pounds per tire. The differences in diameter and rolling circumference is likewise slight. The big jump is when you go beyond 33s. This...
  11. Need help getting drag link off pitman arm

Try some heat. Hair dryer works great. Careful to just get the heat on the drag link end, not near the seal on the steering box. Hold a BFH on the pitman right next to the drag link end. While you're holding it against the arm smack the pitman arm on the opposite side with another BFH. If you...
  12. Need help getting drag link off pitman arm

Pitman arm end is always a difficult spot to smack with a BMFH, stuff in the way. Rest a BFH on one side of the arm at the joint, smack the $#!+ out of the other side of the arm with another BFH and it will pop off. FWIW, I use that exact puller and it works every time.
  13. NOCO and dead battery

If the aux battery has bricked the combined battery draw will suck a portable jump starter dry pretty quickly. You can try just connecting it to terminal #2 on the fuse strip (under the fuse box lid, the row of terminals). That puts the current directly to the main battery. It can provide a bit...
  14. Jeep/Dodge Having Problems Selling???

As an auto industry veteran Iā€™ve seen this situation quite a few times over the years and it never works out easily. The COVID production decline naturally led to an inventory shortage that lasted about 24 months. During that time dealers started jacking up prices with ADM, add-ons, etc...
  15. Can I exercise the 4WD?

Best excuse I've heard for taking it out on a trail ands having some fun with it!
  16. What tire carrier for 37's

Teraflex did the first of these many years ago and their design has evolved over time. Ever Sam & Johnny has copied it, including Mopar. I've had one on my JK for over 10 years holding a 37 and there have been no issues whatsoever. TF provides a series of matching accessories as well, gas can...
  17. MOPAR 2 inches lift kit with OEM wheels

Not JLs but Gladiator Sports Max Tow, we run five of them at our Jeep tour company on the 2" kits with stock wheels and the rubi spec 285/70 R17s (Nitto Ridge Grapplers). They handle & ride great, with no issues other than some broken front sway bar links that we think were just installed...
  18. DIY / Lift Kit sugggestions

    $1,000? Donā€™t bother.
  19. Mechanic's comprehensive tech review of Jeep Wrangler 4XE

Here's a very thorough, and I believe fair review of the 4XE's tech. A lot here to think about.
  20. Admit it.... how many of you love driving your JL on road with basically no intent to ever do any serious off roading

I have a nicely built JKUR for the trails, and I get to wheel JTs almost daily for the Jee tour company I work for. I got my ā€˜23 Willys JT as a daily driver with little to no expectation of it getting on trails. A 1.5ā€ boost and swapping out the tires for 33s is as far is itā€™s going to get built.
