I'm currently driving a 2006 and I wave at every Jeep. I just found out the newest one is supposed to wave first, but oh well, I'll just keep waving. Soon I won't have to worry about that rule!

If you live near a major city or honestly even a populated city, nobody Jeep waves. Maybe a handful of people, but that's it. Second to get out in the countryside, everyone Jeep waves.

I went to a city a couple years back about an hour North of San Antonio and every single Jeep I saw waved back, not a single one didn't. But where I live in Anna texas, no big Jeep waves.

I'm at the point now where I Jeep wave when I want to, and not that ever jeep, but for sure at any who wave at me.

You understand most people who own JK's at this point probably bought them used and have no idea what the Jeep wave is. And any JT or jl's that are stock are pretty much guaranteed to be not Jeep fans or fanatics, so they don't give two shits about the wave. You got to get good at spotting the people who based on their modifications of the jeep, our Jeep fanboys, those people tend to wave a lot, but there's a lot of douchebags out there in the Jeep community so it's kind of Hit or Miss.

You may wanna re-think tinting your back door windows. I did that when I had my 4-Runner & couldn’t see through them at night. 😳 (I just placed a light tint on them). All pending on how dark you go, it kills your blindspot. I’m old school so looking in mirrors is secondary to the over the shoulder look.
My main hobby is road racing. Between my helmet, HANS device, and the roll cage, there is no way to look over my shoulder, so I'm very accustomed to using my side and rearview mirrors.

I think the only time I look over my shoulder at all on the street is when I'm backing into a tight spot.

I just got back into a wrangler after about a 12 year break, and in the past 2 weeks I've probably waved at 40-50 jeeps and had maybe 4 wave back. When I had my TJ literally everyone waved. Is that not a thing anymore? None of the people with a dash full of ducks has waved, I just get this weird vacant eyed stare like "Why are you waving at me?"
I'll blame leased 4xe drivers until proven otherwise.

Once you've spent some time on these boards, you'll understand why a lot of them don't wave back...

2 waves on the way to work today. I'd say that is pretty good considering I only saw 3 jeeps on the way. lol

or maybe they have been jeep owners long before many JL owners even had Driver's licenses and don't give two shits about waving :).....come to Montana where jeeps out number your average vehicle and the only time we wave is if you are driving under 90mph in the fast lane and then it is with the middle finger :).....as we pass you on the right.....again all in fun....:)

If you have modifications or ducks I'm waving at ya. Wave back or don't wave back, makes no difference to me.

I wave at everything that has 7 slots in the grille excluding the SUV’s like Patriots and Libertys. That said, I’ll wave back at anything though because I know what it’s like waving at fellow Jeepers when I forget I’m not in my Jeep…..LOL

I always wave - but I have been doing that since the dawn of time. I also will stop to help a broken down Jeep (and sometimes other vehicles too but not often unless they don't have a phone).

I don't duck unless I am taking girlfriends on a Jeep day - that makes it fun for them.

Jeepers used to be a community. I mean, you can tell an old Jeeper from a new yuppie for sure. Know what I mean? My dad even calls me a Yuppie because I drive a new Jeep, even though I own an old one also.

My husband won't wave - he refuses and thinks it is silly. He is the first to admit that 30 years ago he was thrilled that his girlfriend came with a 4x4 and a dog. I just roll my eyes because he still values that in me but I won't let him drive my Jeep if he won't wave. He can drive my Saturn that I picked up for the kids when they were in high school.

I think a lot of people driving Jeeps now don't understand any of it. The history, the community, how to shift into 4L ...

Don't take it personally - just wave and smile. Be the best Jeeper you can be.

Can you point out where I assigned fault to anyone's actions? I simply asked a question. If that makes you feel at fault for your actions, that's on you.
You may also need to get used to the fact that many people on this forum seem to be on here just to be pricks and make every question or statement into something it’s not so they can go off on some tangent. Your question was pretty straight forward and easy to understand your reason for asking. Too many on this forum trolling for an unprovoked pissing match.
My take on the whole wave thing is that years back when CJ’s were a minority the wave became a thing of ā€œHey look another Jeepā€ and CJ owners would wave. As years have gone by the Jeep in its various models has become part of the majority on the road and became the soccer moms ride, the grocery getter and all these pavement prisoners have changed the demographics of the Jeep owner population. I’m in north GA and there are tons of Wranglers and Gladiators on the roads here and I’d say maybe 75% of Jeepers give a quick wave.

Yeah, it really takes em off guard when you subconsciously do it in a tractor trailer, but it really surprises em, when you toss em a duck from a tractor trailer šŸ˜‰

I’ve gotten Waves and Smiles from it though, and that is the point in doing it

Yeah, there are still kids who do the arm pump, wanting me to toot the air horn for em, and I’m still kid enough, to enjoy it as much as they do

Doug
I stopped at a restaurant to eat, and a mom and her little boy were walking through the parking lot, and the little guy was cranking his arm up and down at me, I didn't want to pull the air horn, because there were people eating outside. The kid looked so anxious and I would've felt bad if I didn't, so I laid the two note warning on the air horn and the kid jumped up and down with excitement and that made me smile, although I think someone on the patio might have spilled some food in their lap.
