or maybe they have been jeep owners long before many JL owners even had Driver's licenses and don't give two shits about waving :).....come to Montana where jeeps out number your average vehicle and the only time we wave is if you are driving under 90mph in the fast lane and then it is with the middle finger :).....as we pass you on the right.....again all in fun....:)
If they have been driving THAT long it's the arthritis preventing them from raising their hand.
No excuse not to return a wave.
I highly doubt the ratio in miles of Jeeps is greater in Montana then anywhere else.
Sounds good through.....

I'm currently driving a 2006 and I wave at every Jeep. I just found out the newest one is supposed to wave first, but oh well, I'll just keep waving. Soon I won't have to worry about that rule!
There's rules now, what?

When driving my Wife's Wrangler I wave at anything that looks like a Jeep (FJ Cruisers, Samurais, Old Land Cruisers, Land Rover Defenders, Renegades on 40's and one tons, 2 rectangular legos stacked together), unless they have an angry grill, or are driving a 4XE.
In a perfect world: This should be the way.....

Well certainly, I wave to every jeep that I see. I was throwing an occasional wave to a few broncos too until one of them flipped me the bird, I didn't appreciate that.
When researching full size Broncos, I was surprised how many said they left Jeep because they were sick of the waves and ducks.

You have to print out the meme sheet to remember the hierarchy ;). Not sure who started this meme but it seems like more of a troll.

I have started not looking for a response after the initial wave to prevent disappointment or taking it personal as others have said they saw the wave too late and couldn't return one.

That's like someone saying the left Hawaii because they were sick of the sand getting stuck to their bare feet.

I just got back into a wrangler after about a 12 year break, and in the past 2 weeks I've probably waved at 40-50 jeeps and had maybe 4 wave back. When I had my TJ literally everyone waved. Is that not a thing anymore? None of the people with a dash full of ducks has waved, I just get this weird vacant eyed stare like "Why are you waving at me?"
I wave all the time, and where I live, I get about a 75% return.

Soccer Moms killed the Jeep wave. On a more serious note, just chill and wave. If they don’t return it, who cares. No the Jeep community isnt what it once was.
I have gotten enough nose in the air, got your nerve hitting on me looks from soccer moms that I now just return wave to females that wave first.
Years ago I was coming off the south side of Sexton Pass, in the Siskiyous, near Grants Pass, OR, when a Mini Van passed me, with about 5 kids in it, all doing the arm pump, Mom saw what they were doing, so it wasn’t going to startle her. I went to give them a double toot, when the valve for the air horn stuck open, yeah the cars around me scattered, for some reason they just didn’t want to be neat a tractor trailer coming down a mountain pass with the air horn blaring nonstop 🤔

Those dayum Intertrashionals in the 80’s and 90’s had garbage air horn valves, I had three of those do that to me, in 36 years of driving, those were the only trucks that I had that happen with

I only honk for the kids after assessing the situation. Startled mom or other drivers often panic and do really stupid maneuvers that far surpass the normal stupid, including locking up the brakes. Disappointed kids are better than creating a possible accident.

There needs to be a dedicated forum category for all things wave related. Can’t believe how often this comes up.

yup a lot like Texas only cooler and no tornadoes or hurricanes or southern borders, altho those Canadians keep trying to sneak in from the North, so we do have problems with them coming in and trying to drink all our beer.....Texas does have Shiner bock beer and some of the best singer/song writers...We both have rattlesnakes so that is something....true story I sold a camper to a guy from Texas who drove all the way from Texas to Montana to get it. He was a bit late and he told me he got bit by a rattlesnake and I thought he was bullshitting and he pulled up his pant leg and his leg was all swollen and black....I was like you better get to the hospital and he said it was just a small one so he would be ok....this was him driving away with my camper. oh another funny story...he asked if I was carrying and I smiled and said "maybe" and he proceeded to pull out 3 different handguns he had on his person and four or five knives....I would have liked to have a few beers with him as he was pretty funny.

Sounds like my kind of guy!!!

Honestly I definitely want to take the wife up to Montana. I've already explained to her that it's just beautiful landscapes, and absolutely nothing else. There ain't jack shit in Montana, and that's why we're going! That being said, Idaho might be the most gorgeous state in the whole country! That one's on the list too!

EDIT:

Sorry, Everclear's got me feeling toasty. I probably shouldn't call the cool guy for Montana a "closeted ***********"...

My bad. I guess I'll get offline now. And finish my large glass of Everclear!!

Here's the photo that went with that post, just because I can. :CWL: 😜

There's a JT in my neighborhood, I wave at that guy all the time, and he always waves back. I'm starting to think maybe we have a connection. You think I should ask him to off-road with me?

Mike, Mom saw what the kids were doing, she wasn’t, or at least wouldn’t have been startled or concerned, and right then, there weren’t other vehicles near enough to have been startled, if Intertrashional used Decent air valves, nobody would have been startled. A stuck air valve just isn’t something that you can predict. Nobody did anything Stupid, but they sure gave me a LOT of room coming off Sexton, fortunately the Hugo exit is near the bottom, and has a Great pull out to deal with things like that.

About the only thing worse than driving an International, is a Volvo tractor, Mack’s and Freight Shakers ain’t much better, unfortunately, Pete’s and KW’s aint the only class 8 trucks on the road.

PacCar for the Win 😉

I was brought up if someone says hello to you, you say hello back.
Quite simple.

Thanks for everyone’s input. Like many have said, not getting a wave back isn’t offensive or anything, it just happened enough in such a short period of time that i wanted to make sure there wasn’t a “we don’t wave anymore because of X legitimate reason.” Now i know that’s not the case and I’ll continue waving as I choose.
