This could be a deal breaker.
I didn't realize all models had this. Thought it was an option. The dual battery thing plus the annoyance of having to shut the damn thing off every time I start it concerns me. The battery thing alone seems to be a potential horror show at some point.

I purposely ordered a stripped down sport for the simplicity of it. This feature, for me personally kinda defeats the purpose.
I'm contemplating bailing out and getting a JK instead.
I didnt know this before I bought my rig. Kinda pissed. Not because I hate ESS, I actually kind of like it sometimes. It's just the setup of a second battery in a bad spot. Batteries dont last long here, on average about 2 years, so now I have two batteries to replace. Not smart.

Still, I LOVE this jeep, JK owners all seem to be saying the JL is a BIG improvement over the JK. Go for an 18 if you go JL, the 19's are going to have and even more tech. Might be good, dunno.

Personally I think the aftermarket will come up with a one battery solution so it will be a non-issue. I cant stop driving mine, power is great, suspension amazing, just everything. I am creating reasons to drive the thing and never has destroying the planet been so much fun. lol

Agreed on AZ doing lots of damage to batteries. Having to replace 2 is going to suck! I agree that we should have a setting to disable permanently without disconnecting a cable. That's ridiculous.

First time ever with a ESS car or a Jeep at thst. It was weird driving home the first time but got used to it and if it saves me money on gas in the long run I’ll use it happily.

Here is my take. I live in Texas. It has been 110-112 last couple of weeks. A/C on full blast. Now, do you want the engine to shut off while stopped? Any questions? FYI, got my Tazer in the mail today.
The beauty of it is, ESS won't shut your engine off if your A/C is under heavy load.

A say this from a point if ignorance and also not knowing how other manufacturers have done their stop start systems: I wonder if similar strong feelings about this feature exist with other manufacturers.
Drive an F-150 with ESS, it is so aggressive compared to the Jeep's system. If you creep forward in traffic, it will shut off every time you fully stop, whereas the Jeep requires you to hit 5 MPH before ESS will function again. It will also start and stop multiple times in a stop with your A/C whereas the Jeep will just stay on if it needs to restart for A/C. Jeep put in some common sense into the ESS compared to other manufacturers.

I neither like nor dislike it. Mine functions as it's supposed to and I can turn it off with the push of a button.

Sidebar: Perhaps the forum admins should add some mournful violin music as background to the ESS snowflake threads. :rain:

Not only will it turn the engine on if the AC is up but also if your sound system is turned up....esp the Alpine.

It works seamlessly in mine. Dunno why people hate it so much.
Something else to go wrong and does on mine and apparently others, so that would be one thing.

The other might be the extra battery in a top secret hard to reach spot. Replacing it along with the other battery is going to suck when it WILL eventually happen

Guys who actually use there rig as intended see this as a silly meaningless feature. Guys who live in cities, high traffic areas, malls crawlers, posers, lines at the Starbucks drive thru , etc.will likely have no problem with it so long as it works.

Cant jump start it, instead you need to chump start it.

If mine worked all the time I would probably have less to say about it, but it doesnt and I only see more issues ahead until there is a long term fix for the extra battery.

@twisty and Bob, (to beat a dead horse) much as I appreciate that FCA did testing over time and weather, much as I don't know the little batteries design in terms of longevity, and the depth of its cycle, let's see how our little battery fairs up to the effects of time and cold weather in its ability to hold and deliver a charge

LOL such an ignorant implication. Yes, only non-hardcore jeepers won't care about it. I'm just a Starbucks (don't drink coffee) mall crawling (don't go to the mall) silly city dweller who don't know nuthin' about Jeeps. Garsh.

lol, and we never ever leave town, or have any use for 4 wheel drive because our streets are perfect and never get freezing rain... nor do we need to use our Jeeps to drive to work so we can afford to have a Jeep....

I've gotten used to it and don't mind it in most scenarios. I have a 6 speed which I think gives me more control over it but as long as I don't have the A/C blasting, it functions rather well. If I get stuck in stop and go traffic, I just push the button to turn it off. No big deal at all.

Like I said before, the potential battery issue thing is what irks me. And what about wear and tear on the starter?
Or do new cars not have starters anymore? Ugh. All this technology.
I think I'm gonna yank the 3.6 and drop in a carburated V8. Wait, cant do that because it wont pass state inspection...

I just want simple and dependable.
Hence ordering a no frills sport.
