Does anyone actually like start-stop

The battery thing concerned me the most.
You get one of those surprise dead battery incidents and its a whole rigamaroo to jump it. Or so it seems.
From what I read you can't give it a quick boost and be on your merry way, you have to actually charge it.
IDK. Not a technology fan. Wish they still made new vehicles with carburetors. And no emission testing nonsense. Nothing more obnoxious than a check engine light.

Here is my take. I live in Texas. It has been 110-112 last couple of weeks. A/C on full blast. Now, do you want the engine to shut off while stopped? Any questions? FYI, got my Tazer in the mail today.

It doesn't shut off if it won't be able to maintain cabin temperature. It doesn't shut off in the afternoons here where 110 is normal. You don't need the tazer for that. It's standard behavior on vehicles with ESS. Just so everyone knows.

Mine shuts off in the Phoenix heat. Super annoying. I keep my AC blasting and set on "Low".

I haven't had a problem with this or any of the other vehicles I drive for work really. If you back off the brake by half an inch, the engine comes back on. Not that I doubt you, because that would make me turn it off.

The Tazer is for other things besides that. Just one of the things I will turn off

My experience is that ESS doesn't categorical disengage with the A/C merely on, but will if that A/C is "asked" by the operator via temperature and/or fan speed, to tackle hot weather.

First thing I did when I took delivery was to disconnect the battery sensor cable. I will never have to worry it shutting off

Yanking this cable though makes the diagnostic light come on though @Stickerhead , right?

The Tazer will allows you to reconnect that wire and not get that diagnostic.

I for one love the ESS system. I've often said to myself while day dreaming: "gee if only I could own a complex engine start/stop system whose algorithms are kept in large part from me, that I don't understand, that I may never understand fully, that people are reporting problems with right out of the ownership gate (wait until a year from now), that requires a second difficult to replace battery that the rig depends upon for mission critical work, that seems to prevents true jump starting over "chump starting" (trickle charging followed by cranking) and whose replacement cost, assuming semi-proprietary, may be high."

And I'm one of the ones that actually doesn't mind ESS when it works.

As I learn more I may truly choose to stockpile an extra ESS battery. I wonder in my ignorance if this system had opportunity to be set up differently, better?

I wonder if hard wired hooking up the two batteries in parallel may become common place. I wonder if enough problems occur, if FCA will change the algorithms that make it tick. I wonder if it will prove successful. FCA did do a lot of testing.

I personally DO NOT like it. I am slowly getting into the habit of just turning it off. I really wish it was opposite, whereas the default was OFF and you could turn it on if you'd like. And there might be a few times I do turn it on.

But otherwise, I'm forming the habit of hitting OFF overtime I enter the car.

Totally agree!! Wish it was the opposite, turn it on if wanted.

This is the 3rd vehicle I have/own that has this technology, its a very short learning curve, and I have learned to like it and it does improve the MPGs, I have not experienced any issues and have not heard of premature wear on starter or battery. And you can always disable if needed...

I used to own a BMW that had the auto start/stop feature. As I recall, the majority of people didn't like it (it was very intrusive on the 228i I had), but it was less of a hot topic than it is here because of the BMW's ability to remember the last setting each time you started the car.

I really don't understand what the big issue is, the jeep is not a sports car and I don't need to race of the line. So it shuts off and then its quite, I'm not burning gas, and it takes a second to to start up. For me, no biggie.

When mine is working (it's intermittently telling me to service it) and have the AC on max the ESS automatically turns off, same for a host of other reasons.

But if you really cared (for real lol) you would refrain from using your AC anyway. Burns WAY more gas then any savings from ESS.

Sorry, I just always get a kick out of the global warming cult (not you). They claim to care but its only words. Its a jeep forum and the last place anyone should be talking about this type of religion.
