About to switch out my covers and change the oil for the first time. Can someone link to where Dana is recommending 75w140 for the front diff?

We use in all three of our Wranglers, 75W90 in the diff's. We do not tow with ours. We have never had a diff failure.

I am surprised at how little diff fluid is at factory fill..Just changed mine at 10,000 miles and front had a little over a quart from the factory and the rear was 1.6 quarts. it looked good and the magnets at the fill plugs were clean on both front and rear no metal whiskers and the locker mag was clean and very little brass glitter in the bottom of the oil pan.

Tell me about that factory fill, took a sample for oil analysis and found out I was low, got 1/2+ quart in it before it started oozing out.

I was surprised when I pulled the fill plugs that the level was below the hole on both front and rear.

When you install tires not equipped by Jeep and/or use it in extreme conditions, you are subjecting your axles to conditions beyond what Jeep tested when they selected and evaluated the gear oil.

Dana selected and evaluated gear oil to perform at the maximum stresses they rate their axles for.
Choose what you like.

I was surprised when I pulled the fill plugs that the level was below the hole on both front and rear.
On my 2024 (Jeep on level ground):
  • the rear diff OEM fill was full (a bit of fluid came out of fill hole when plug removed)
  • the front diff OEM fill appeared adequate or low (no fluid came out of fill hole)
  • at 10k miles both fluids "looked" dark (did not send off for analysis); but will probably do the next fluid change in another 15k instead of 10k.
  • no metal shavings nor slime on either fill plug magnet or locker magnets
  • no shiny metal in drained diff fluids either
My 4L and lockers are used regularly.

the oil was dark also on my side at 12k miles. Iron was at 939 but this is the factory fill so expected. Lab instructed to continue running the oil.

Since this is factory fill I will replace soon, already go the oil just wait for a warmer temperature.

There's zero arguing those statements. 😉👍
