Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the fluid to be used in my differential. I have a 2018 wrangler JL 3.6 from what I can tell I have a Dana M200. The manual states I should use 75W85. I also emailed Jeep Customer Care, they also stated that according to my VIN I have a Dana M200 that requires 75W85. This is where the confusion comes in, according to online research and what others have said in the forums the M200 requires 75W140.
So what informations should I go by?

DO go with 75/140 in front and rear as recommended by Dana.

Consider going with Valvoline pouches. Valvoline has additive.

Read through the whole thread as fluid recommendations changed as time went on... and with more info from Dana.

Read through this whole thread..... Be sure to read all posts in the thread.

Interesting as you chimed in telling me in that very thread…. to go with 75/90 yet now you are telling him to do 75/140?
And yes Info “changes” ppls opinions …..but on that same thread previous page, you told another member to do 75/90 in the front and than 75/140 in the rear. But than next page you told me a different scenrio.

No disrespect….as any info and suggestions is and are appreciated…..but to OP….the point here is, don’t blindly go by one’s suggestion here on oil and DO your own due diligence. As ppls opinions on oils here change more than the direction of piss while pissing in the wind

@Jay 13

I replied to you in 2021........

That is why I told @4a4c55 to read through that whole thread.

As the thread lets say aged, the recommendation to use 75/140 in both front and rear was posted by myself and @CarbonSteelbased on Dana recommendations.

Failure to read through the whole thread by anyone is not my problem.
Currently, Dana is recommending 75/140 front and rear. Daaaah.....

This isn’t meant to be an attack on you. I read that thread. And your recommendation went from 75/140 on one page than changed to 75/90 the next one to me…..and I guess it’s back to 75/140 now?
Not saying that your claim now is incorrect. Just that even yourself, your opinion has swung back n forth a few times.

my input to OP is take recommendations (as that’s what he’s asking for here) but to also not blindly take ones without also looking into it personally. And then coming to his own conclusions.

no offense was intended here. Just clarification to OP. Clearly before asking the question he was already being given different answers/opinions.

edit: And yes OP as Rhineback mentioned that is what Dana recommends 75/140

Thing is, the thread has almost 600 posts, not even counting the links to other sites and other threads. Lots of them contradict each other, and it's also hard to evaluate which ones are correct and which aren't. (... for any arbitrary definition of "correct".)

For these things, I just stick with what the manual says. For my rig, that's 75W85 in front and 75W140 in the rear. The Valvoline pouches are great, and Amsoil has them too. Valvoline meets the GL-5 API specification in the manual, too.

That is why I told @4a4c55 to read through that whole thread.
Sorry, when was that?

Where did Dana make this recommendation? Some technical bulletin someplace, maybe?

Again, suggested to use 75/140 front and rear ... and also suggested he read the whole thread...

His reply indicated to me he did not want to bother reading the whole thread.. (His problem)

I find it best when I give a suggestion/recommendation, to tell the asker of the ? to go read for himself at a specific given thread.. and do diligent research and make an educated choice so to speak.

Lol, not sure why you laughing. None of what you said explains why you told a member one thing than the opposite the next page than are now back to the prior recommendations

In actuality you are just proving my original post…to not BLINDLY go by one’s opinion on here as it might change and to just do his own DD….is that bad advise?

So I’d rather not keep going back n forth…….you tip toe around the fact that you changed your oil recommendation couple days apart you did 75/140 no doubt than next page told me 75/90.
And now are doing the same with him.

And therefore I’m telling him in my opinion …he should absolutely take recommendations but also due DD.

nothing more nothing less

Links are given in that thread to the spec sheets authored by Dana. You want the info, go to that thread and read. Don't expect me to go and do your homework for you....

Agreed. ??

and what difference am I saying?

read through this thread you recommended…is part of doing his own DD.
But some how coming from me is offensive to you? Lol

it’s all good my friend. I’m not trying to say I know more don’t worry. Just pointing something out and giving my 2 cents here.

he came confused and I’m sure when or if he reads that whole thread as I did…he will still come out confused..

And yes he should probably ask Dana himself

Sorry -- I didn't mean to piss you off. I just thought you had the information handy. I found a post about the M210 and the M220, but not the M200, so it's not like I didn't try.

he came confused and I’m sure when or if he reads that whole thread as I did…he will still come out confused..
Indeed, that's the problem and why I think most people find the "go read the thread!" advice dismissive and curt, and also why the question keeps coming up again. ... and also why I recommend just sticking to the recommendation in manual.

Daaaah, links to the actual specs sheets authored by DANA, recommending 75/140 frt. and rear, are in that thread.

I gave a recommendation based on Dana spec sheets and tell all to go read at the thread themselves.... to read the whole thread. Lazy ones wouldn't bother, but want to be spoon fed.

I like to help but I am not going to do a guys homework for him.
I'm not the one that needs the info.. I do not need to reread that thread nor will I.

Reality is , I could care less what a guy/gal does with his JL.. I give them correct info and then they can do as they like... Yes, they should verify anything anyone says in a forum post..

Enough said. I have no time for asshats...
Asshat?? Hahaha ok. …..so again why did you recommend 75/90 to me??? And AGAIN this was after you on the previous page swore 75/140 ??? Guess pointing out that was done with me from you and making sure to OP to do his DD for these exact reasons, makes me and asshat?

The fact you choose to be rude and name call is a bad look.

But hey do you !!

Asshat out ✌
