The manual discusses using 75w-140 in the rear for towing.
That recommendation must have changed for 2021, no mention of using 75/140 for the Rubicons in my manual. Actually, no mention of a different fluid for towing at all in my manual.
Or maybe it’s because mines built to Canadian specs?

Did mine today, 11k miles, rear was jet black but front wasn’t bad at all, no metal on the drain plug magnets but a tiny bit of of grey sludge was there. Overall very easy to do, used Royal Purple 75w-140 in the rear and then finished the bottle in the front before topping off with 75w-90. After adding the additive in the rear I used less than 3 1qt bottles total.

I thought Royal Purple didn't need any additive?

It probably doesn't hurt to add a couple of ounces of the Mopar LSD additive, especially with the number of D44 LSD knocking issues reported on the forum. Also, unless I'm interpreting gear oil specs wrong, most meet the MS-5630 LSD additive requirement, but very few meet Mopar's MS-10111.

Probably overkill, better safe than sorry.
But everything I've found so far indicates too much limited slip additive is a bad thing, causes LSD to operate as an open differential. Personally I'm going to change mine with Valvoline 75W90 that has the additive already in it and check it for chatter. If it does then I'll add a little at a time until the chatter goes away. I bought my particular JL because it had an LSD, I don't want to end up losing it.

Correct, too much additive can cause issues just as not using additive can cause issues.

Valvoline and Royal Purple, (sure there are other's) both have all the additive you need and you will not find yourself adding Mopar additive. Also, even if additive is not required for a vehicle, Valvoline and Royal Purple will be aok to use..

I have used both Royal Purple and Valvoline.. You can save $ and have less issues getting the fluid into the diffs, if you go with this (Flexfill) product offering.. Buy the 4 pack as this way you save lots.

Just wanted to reiterate:

The tops of the Valvoline FlexiFill gear oil pouch's , DO screw right off/on.....

DO, save the empty FlexiFill pouch's and squirt cap for future diff fluid changes, especially, if you think just possibly you will buy gear oil (any brand) that does not come in a pouch.

Unless you are using 4 wheel drive a lot you will usually see / know that the front is not necessarily in need of a fluid change whereas the rear, working all the time, will definitely need .... but probably most, will say DO, change both when you do the deed.

Personally, if I'm gonna be down there anyway, have to drag out the tools and catch pan, gonna have to do post deed, clean-up .....and since both can be done for less then $40..... well, might just as well do it... know it is done ... your vehicle is all set diff wise.. (also take into consideration mileage and change recommendations.... type of use....)

@Vinman

And .......

Are you thinking you do not need to use 75/140 in rear diff if you have the tow package on your 2021.... Sure hope that is not what you are thinking..
I will use the 75/140 if I should, just annoyed the manual isn't more clear

Ive looked at a few different threads on the forum now and still cant draw a clear answer as most are running Rubis with e lockers but still should not require limited slip additive, but some of the bottles like Amsoil and Valvoline say “limited slip” the delema is i have a ‘18 JLUS Dana 30 m186 front Dana 35 m200 rear no limited slip. Are these gear oils still safe to use in my diffs even tho they may already contain the LS friction modifier? Then do i run 75w90 front and 75w140 rear? Thank you to anyone in advance..

you can run the oils with LS additive in them in a vehicle without limited slip. No harm done.

I run amsoil 75w90 in front and 75w140 in rear with mopar LS additive. (I have LS in my sport)

The rubicons do not have limited slip they have e-lockers which do not require additive.
