I hadn’t seen this posted so maybe it will help others…

I’ve been trying to find an easy way to store 2 MaxTrax boards on the inside of the Jeep as I try to limit stuff everywhere on the outside for looks as well as to avoid possible theft and wear and tear on gear.

When I camp, I usually take my Patriot x3 trailer which has 4 MaxTrax recovery boards mounted on the exterior of the trailer, but what about always in the Jeep for regular driving and when I don’t have the trailer?

I’ve had the XG Cargo gamma bags installed for a while now, and wouldn’t you know, the MaxTrax boards rest perfectly on top of them side by side and nestle into the nook between the underside of the hard top (padded) and the rear roll bar.

You can’t stack them as there is not enough top to bottom height, so you have orient them like this. It’s nearly a perfect fit with no movement when in transit and there is padding on the r bags and the hard top to keep things from moving and making noise from vibration. And it’s simple to pull them out and back in and the take up no valuable, useable real estate.

Pretty happy about it.

very cool. It's a good idea to have a secondary spot to mount them outside the Jeep, for that time you do have to use them, they're covered in mud, and you don't want to put them inside till you can hose them off.

In our two-door, I carry our boards in the bag and stuffed them between the roll bars, securing them with a ratchet strap around the roll bar. It keeps them out of the way in what is usually a wasted space.
Works great as long as there are no passengers in the rear seat.

How are they secured to the bag?

They aren’t. The edges of the boards rest on top of the bags between the bags and the hard top. No need to secure as there is basically no movement left/right or front/back.

I mean, you could secure them if you wanted, but after driving around like this for a couple of days, they’ve not moved.

Agreed. I could mount them to my roof bars and tie down with cam straps I keep in the Jeep.

I also have a MaxTrax board bag but that’s just one more item to keep and it’s a big bag. The roof is probably better/easier, especially when muddy.

As mentioned above, looks great until you have to use them. Assuming you have them as you may get stuck in deep mud, etc. they we create a mess inside your Jeep! Looks cool though!

What are the side bags between the roll bar and windows? I'm looking for something that would fit exactly where you have those. Thanks.

A ratchet strap will hold them to the top or side of the spare tire if they are too muddy to go back inside, obviously theft is less of an issue when they are covered in mud.
