I am new to being my own mechanic as I never did anything until this Jeep. So far it's just oil changes and tire rotations. Now I'm trying to learn how to replace brake pads and rotors. Quadratec has a great video on this as well as others on YouTube. My main question is about the emergency brake for a manual transmission and what happens if it's engaged?

All the videos I've seen said not to engage it because it locks up the rear wheels, but I assume this is for automatic transmissions. I have the jack that came with my Jeep and will need Jack stands. Any insight or pro tips is much appreciated!

You need rotors on a 21 already?

Normally the e-brake is a drum inside the rotor hat. If it's not disengaged, you won't be able to pull off the rotor. Chock the tires before you jack the rear.

Not yet, it's only at $25k miles but I want to be prepared with tools and information long before I actually need to be perform the repair.

Is this in addition to the parking brake? I've read mention of the electronic emergency brake needing to be disengaged through the cars software, although that was not for a JLU and not a manual transmission.

Looks like I'll need chocks too.

Sorry, e-brake as in emergency/parking brake. No electric parking brake on JL.
