Washed the jeep over the weekend and noticed small bubbles in the paint at one of the rear door hinges. I am over a year and have roughly 27k miles. They are hard underneath and the paint is not loose and pretty sure they were not there last time i washed the vehicle. It cant be rust under the paint since the doors are aluminum. All other hinges are fine. Has anyone seen this issue?

I've had my JL for 3 months, last week was first time on a long gravel driveway and both back door hinges had paint bubbles that lost entire chunks of paint from kicking rocks. Straight down to bare metal...

I have random bubbles in a few spots. I just took it to the dealer to document them... I didn't want it fixed because they aren't that noticable...and repainting justmay make it worse.

Hey GraniteJLU,

We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern, as they are in the best position to provide assistance. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

Yep. Just noticed them on my 2018 2.0 door hinges.

I have the bubbles around 7 out of 8 hinges, waiting to hear from the dealership for scheduling.

It goes into the body shop the first week of November, covered under warranty.
Ok great to hear, mine is only one hinge and appears to be spreading. Are they repainting all of your doors?

Not sure but I have concerns with them matching the color exactly. When the dealership decided to be careless when replacing my drivers seat frame and scratched the door jam it took them three times to get it close to being right. The color is good now but the workmanship is lacking.

Bubbles are getting larger and have a feeling paint is going to start chipping off soon, pretty disappointing. I am also starting to notice it on other doors. It has to be some kind of reaction between the hinge and door but both are aluminum? I would assume this is going to affect a-lot of JLs in the near future.

Here’s mine. I wonder how does the dealer preps the aluminium prior painting, to ensure that it doesn’t reoccur???

I wonder if installing Derlin hinge bushings would break the conductivity thus reducing the corrosion/ oxidation???

I am experiencing the same issue on two of my doors. I currently have my Jeep at the dealership to have the doors painted. This is starting to become an issue as seen from the multiple posts. Interested to see what Chrysler may to say in the near future.
