Don't really have much to add here other than to reiterate to people this is not a maintenance issue. I have a White 2020 JLUR with 9500 miles on it. Heated Garage, washed once or sometimes twice a week. Ceramic coated first week of ownership. I use a ceramic detailer spray on wax / recharge once a month. I also use an Adams Air Canon after I wash to get all the water out of the nooks and crannies. That said - 6 months ago I had one small spot under the rear driver side door, probably about the size of a pea. Now its 3 times as big and I have bubbling on 5 of my 8 door hinges.

I enjoy my jeep (my first one) and I love off-roading and hitting the trails with friends but I also really enjoy cleaning and detailing my cars, my jeep included. I can wash indoors (drains and hot / cold running water in my garage) and I enjoy my garage time (music on and beer close by).

All that said I sick over this issue. I know every dealer and every owner will deal with this in there own way. This will not bother some and will totally freak out others. Im not trying to troll here, you can look at my many responses and several treads that I started on here to see I enjoy my Jeep and the people who it has brought me in touch with. Truly a great community of people.

THAT SAID - I'm trading in my RUBI. I had a very good lottery number and 2 weeks ago ordered my 2021 Bronco Badlands. It should be here end of MAY. Sorry guys (and girls).

I already know people will point to FORD paint problems as well but I have a 2017 Ford Raptor with 30k miles on it and ZERO issues with it (paint or otherwise). My wife has a 2015 Ford Edge with 75k miles on it and the paint is perfect. Ill take my chances.

Again - this is not intended to promote Ford and diss other Jeep owners - its just one off-road enthusiasts opinion. I wish everybody good luck with there Jeeps and getting this issue resolved.

PS - I just wanted to add. I have never sold a 1 year old vehicle. I always keep my cars and trucks to about 80k or 90k miles. This is not an easy decision and I am sure will cost me some money but Jeeps do hold there values pretty well so we shall see.
Trading my Jeep in soon as well donā€™t blame you one bit

Iā€™m curious why you are using fluid film under your hinges rather than an epoxy paint on the bare metal. Fluid film is good but Iā€™m not sure itā€™s permanent.

Regardless, Iā€™m quite sure FCA will deny you paint warranty around the hinges if bubbles pop up later....since youā€™ve ā€œtamperedā€ with the finish....

The black hinges look great!
I went back and forth a lot. Thatā€™s what I originally wanted to do. Short answer is fluid film was more of a fool proof way to do it for me, whereas if I painted the bare metal and the aluminum wasnā€™t clean, which is really hard to do, it wouldnā€™t help this issue. Fluid film stops corrosion on contact, and it is extremely hard to get off especially if it isnā€™t exposed to any elements. Iā€™ve had it on my underside of my truck through two winters in PA, it held up great. I know thereā€™s epoxy that is meant for this...
Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a few ways to doing this, and Iā€™m a CPA, I have no knowledge of this other than the 10 or so hours Iā€™ve researched how to prevent aluminum from corrosion lol Iā€™m always open to suggestions if you think my method wonā€™t work!
However I havenā€™t seen anyone else try this so I figured itā€™s worth a shot

I too am a finance guy - so my expertise is limited. I suspect fluid film will work on most of the bare areas but I wonder how it will hold up on the painted edges...which is where the corrosion starts. Iā€™m guessing you could reapply every several years.

So apparently my 2018 has also developed corrosion in 7 of the 8 hinges, and the hood hinges as well. This is ridiculous.

Quick question, I purchased my Rubicon used last year and was wondering if FCA will cover the corrosion since I purchased the vehicle used and I am the second owner?

Thanks for the help.

Hey GraniteJLU,

We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern, as they are in the best position to provide assistance. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

Mine were done May 2020. Noticed they were back end of last year. They took photos today and going to see if can either replace all the doors or strip and paint the doors all over again. Problem I have an hope they also take care of is I had punisher wrapped on my Jeep. They may jot pay to have put back on.

This is unacceptable to happen on new jeeps. This is my fifth Wrangler and with 19k miles I also have lots of bubbles appearing but unfortunately for me I bought a used 2019 Rubi that the dealer purchased from Canada which means all repairs will be out of pocket . I want to wrap it around a tree right about now.

Has anyone had a
Re-spray been successful
So far so good. But had to go back 2x to get the job done properly. Key seems to be the epoxy primer under and around the hinge. Paint shop owner told me this is a very common problem on many FCA vehicle models. Not just JLs. Stay on top of the repair and get to know the shop owner or foreman to make sure the work is done to your satisfaction and has a lifetime warranty.

Happy to also report that all water leaking into the cabin has been completely resolved under warranty. Had a ton of water pooling under the footwell carpeting which is very hard to notice when covered with Mopar rubber floormats. Would suggest that every JL owner check for this and get a leak specialist to correct if there is a problem. FCA sub contracted this out and they actually found and corrected everything. Was told the specialist is down at the dealer all the time finding and fixing FCA vehicle leaks.

Anyways back to fully enjoying our JL. Really is a pleasure to drive with the new steering box and stock KO2s at 32.
