Geez this is enough to make me not want one now. My JK had this issue, and it was a nightmare. Good luck to you guys. @JeepCares maybe instead of posting that they can message you maybe you should message the affected buyer? That blows big time.

It's not a Wrangler thing or a Jeep thing it is all manufacturers that use aluminum parts. Ford, Chevy, Audi and others all have issues. Here is what a body shop worker said on an F150 forum with complaints about aluminum weakness and paint problems:

While I agree we don’t do much fab work anymore but there is more to body work than just slapping on some filler or replacing the panel. When it comes to aluminum the reason why there is a higher cost is because we need to get a whole new set of metal work tools so there is no cross contamination between the steel bodies we work on and aluminum. The manufacturers even want us to build special clean rooms for aluminum repair at a cost of about 60-80 grand. Aluminum also corrodes just like steel so there isn’t a real advantage there. I just saw a 14 and 15 dodge caravan with aluminum hoods that were corroded already on the outside. I am no expert on the whole aluminum vs steel but I have been doing bodywork for 15yrs and can tell you Troy it is not as easy as you seem to think.

When they decided to go to aluminum for the Wrangler the CEO at that time said they consulted with Audi because they had built separate facilities for steel and aluminum to try to avoid cross-contamination. I think they did that at the Toledo plant also. A single speck of steel dust on an aluminum part can ruin the paint and cause it to pop.

So it is an aluminum problem that most manufacturers have problems with. They can go to carbon fiber at much higher cost but it has problems also. Remember the good old days when everybody just complained about their steel fenders rusting out after a couple of years? Sigh. Miss those good old days.

Yep add me to the list with my 2018. Took the front doors off for the first time and all 4 hinges have this. For every thing I find I love about the Wrangler I get a slap in a face back to reality.

That’s ridiculous. Makes you wonder if having the dealer mess with it is even worth it. Half the time they make it 10x worse! Geez sorry your dealing with that on a basically brand new jeep

Yeah, that's the same thought I have. I really don't want them messing up the paint (crappy quality, mismatch, etc....)

Don’t know if this will help guys but three weeks ago I had the dealership fixed all the hinges on my unlimited turned out beautiful they also informed me that any paint problems down the road because I had it fixed would be good for the life of the vehicle.

I noticed mine has a little also. Does anyone know if FCA would pay to replace the PPF I have on my doors if I take it in to have this stuff repaired/repainted?

I can’t believe what I have been reading in this thread. I’ve just happened to see yesterday that my paint on my door started to bubble and it appears to be some sort of corrosion. I have a 2018 JL and this is just flat out ridiculous. I barely have 15k miles on it and it is in a garage 90% of the time. This is very disappointing because I planned on having this Jeep for a very long time and if there is going to be a reoccurring issue I’m just going to get a truck and call it a day. I love the Jeep community and how it feels like a family and I want to be a part of it but this is a big issue that Jeep should put a recall out or something. I’ve read horror stories on here saying that when they take it to the body shop it doesn’t come back the same. That alone is going to upset me greatly. Anyways, I’m calling the service department after Memorial Day and we’ll see what hoops I have to jump through.

I am with you on this. Was planning on keeping mine a veRy long time too but went and bought an ‘04 Rubi to possibly replace my JL - so sad but these new vehicles just aren’t the same.

The funny this is my hinges seem fine for now. Where I’m seeing the corrosion is on the bottom of the door right on the edge. It’s absolutely unacceptable.

Go read the galvanic corrosion thread. ALL aluminum vehicles have paint problems because any bit of steel dust under the paint can cause corrosion. Ford has a class action lawsuit for F-150 aluminum corrosion issues. It is not a Jeep problem it is an aluminum problem.
And don't hold your breath that a standard paint shop can fix it. Requires specialized traing, equipment and booth.
