Let us know how it looks... we'd all like to avoid adding insult to injury.
I just dropped my Jeep off and I’m really nervous that the door won’t be restored back to factory condition.
My dealer looked for less than 30 seconds and made an appointment to repaint the passenger door, driver side hood hinge and hood. I have an aftermarket hood blackout panel on my hood though, which will clearly need to come off. Anyone know if FCA will replace that, or is that on me now? I hate this... the Jeep is only 17 months old, and he said they have been told by FCA to refinish “panel by panel” wherever it happens and will only replace the panel if the problem returns. The paint shop guy I spoke with said “it’s not rust—it’s just water trying to get out because we live under the hot sun of Florida”. What? This is the 7th new car I’ve purchased here, and none of them felt the need to shed water through the paint. And my Jeep is garaged. I guess that’s supposed to make me feel better. Grrrrr

I feel the same way. I hate that I have to deal with this. My Jeep basically lives in a garage and it’s barely 2 years old. I live in Florida as well and I’m not buying that it’s from the heat.

Just took my to the dealer this morning for them to take pics. I have the same under paint bubbling on one hood hinge and 4 different door hinges. Just noticed yesterday when I was washing my Jeep. I just spent the last hour reading every post in this thread and am now very concerned. My jeep is a 2018 that is now only 9 months away from being out of warranty. I will update as I hear back from the dealer.

Update: Just got a call from the dealer, since they don't have a body shop they are asking me to go get a quote for a body shop so that they can attach it to their request to FCA for repair. This blows big time

Good luck. I took mine in yesterday and I’m worried it won’t come back the same. This shouldn’t be happening so soon.

I agree. This is disheartening. It doesn't appear to be a consolidated definitive fix either. My fear is that I get mine back and best case scenario it looks good as new. How long will that last? Will the next time be after my warranty is out? I really hope that FCA does right by the customer on this. They have sold a ton of JL's and Gladiators so this could be very costly for them but I can't imagine having a bunch of 5 year rust corrosion infested vehicles on the road would help their continued sales and profits either.

Heard. Yesterday, a neighbor that just moved into the community approached me as I was putting the doors back on to ask how I liked my Jeep. It was the first time I paused. Despite a myriad of safety recalls that seems to have me "leasing" dealer rental cars instead of my Wrangler, I have always said "I love it". Always.

Yesterday got me thinking... with the difficulties I've had in a year and a half, and all the hoops I jump through to accommodate the dealer, why do I continue to play fan boy? I like the Jeep, I do. It fits my lifestyle, and blah, blah, blah, but when I showed the bubbling paint on the smooth panel of my door to the new neighbor—his face mirrored back how I've really been feeling lately. It's not good.

I planned to buy my lease out next year and keep the Jeep for a long while. I can't say I'd even consider that after talking to the paint shop. "just bring it in every time you see rust somewhere" he said. It's cool that they'll fix it, but after all—it's under warranty—it should be fixed. But the hours spent arranging schedules so I can be trapped in a dealer rental (that has, only one time, been a Wrangler) sucks. A lot.

So—body panel by body panel, I'll take it in. And hope to god they do a good job with the quality & matching. I'll let you all know how it goes… as it goes. Unfortunately, it's looking like some of us will be well acquainted with the paint shop in the near future. And as I cruise down the road with my family in a loaner Renegade, sporting a color I would never have picked out on our way to explore the great outdoors—I'll be thinking about what my next car might be. I hope I can proudly say it will be another Wrangler… but right now, I can't honestly say.

It is not a Jeep thing it is an aluminum problem. Weren't you aware of the problems with aluminum car panels before you bought it? The F-150 has had the problem since they converted over. Think there might even be a class action suit about it. It took a long time to conqueror rust on steel panels so it will take a long time for corrosion on aluminum. Since more and more vehicles are going to aluminum to meet higher and higher CAFE requirements it will be prevalent unless you buy a carbon fiber car.

No fooling. I baby my ride, and hate it when you get the "this was bound to happen" sort of response that I've seen so far. Not that the people are acting poorly—that's not what I mean. The reps are all nice enough, but if someone would just step up and say "yeah—this shouldn't happen" maybe I wouldn't feel so upset.

End rant. Best of luck with your paint issues. Let us know how it all turns out.

I echo these sentiments exactly! Mine was in for rear axle swap and bubbling paint. They said they are about 3 months out for body shop scheduling. They have had my Wrangler for 2 weeks due to backorder parts for axle and I have been stuck in a Compass. Not fun. Currently only 2 of my doors are exhibiting the condition. Who knows what it will look like in a few months. Repeated trips to the dealer for recurring issues that there is no long term solution for would likely prevent me from buying another JL OR recommending one to others (as I have done up to this point). Almost wish I would have leased at this point so I could just turn it in. Real bummer. Guess I should just stick to the good old TJ that's all steel and has good old bullet proof REAL Dana 44's.

Make sure you check the quality of the repaint carefully. When I brought mine in for the first repair, they did a crappy job. I had to bring it back two weeks later (after the paint had time to cure) to have it wet sanded and polished. Unfortunately, my corrosion came back, and it is now also appearing on the drivers door. I will be going in for my second repair sometime in July.

Did they put everything back in the door correctly? Ex. The rubber door trim, the window?

They didn't replace my door, so they didn't remove anything other than the exterior door handle, keyhole and mirror. Everything was reinstalled correctly. This time I think I'm going to insist they replace the doors. Even when it's just the hinge area that's repaired, they still wind up painting most of the door anyway.
