A plug-in hybrid is a compliance vehicle that will appeal to a very small fringe, will have an astronomical price, and will likely do nothing to add capability on the trail.

And if the eTorque fiasco is any indication, FCA will find a way to screw up royally.

Is/will jeep responding? I don’t know.

but I can assume that in many an FCA conference room they are discussing Estimates of how much market share will be lost in various buyer categories to the Bronco if they do nothing.

Some people did some math based on the available numbers and Sasquatch will likely be around $4k-for the lower trims. Ford has said that the badlands will be prorated since it includes everything except a longer bumpstop and tires but lower trims will cost more. I expect it to be $3995 plus $2k auto trans; $6k.
Not sure what you are saying here, but if I add up your numbers, it comes to $48k.

Like I said, I'll believe a $36k Squach when I see it.

I get where y’all are coming from but if Jeep is going to compete with Bronco
If Jeep is going to compete with the vehicle that’s not even out yet but has been crowned king apparently without any real world experience? The Bronco looks real good but the hype train is gonna lead to a lot of disappointment for a decent segment of its owners. People think it’s gonna be everything and anything when nothing is.

Base bronco is $29.5k. Auto trans 2k. Sasquatch 4K.

I mean the stuff I listed is literally just objectively better on the Bronco. And yes while the bronco is not out yet, from a big picture timescale 10 months is nothing. Automakers plan 5-10 years into the future.

And believe me, I get where you guys are coming from. I love jeeps too... hence why I drive one. But Jeep is going to be doing a LOT of changes to the lineup for 2022. Is the lack of a solid front axle option a deal break for some? Of course. I actually had hoped ford would do both. But for standard features and options packages, assuming the pricing isn’t absurd, Bronco has absolutely destroyed Jeep. I can 100% guarantee that Jeep is trying to finagle how to get lockers on all trims while also keeping the rubicon a “grail” vehicle.

Bronco is good for everyone because they have managed to create such an insane value proposition.

Somewhere in the badlands there is a Sasquatch looking for a black diamond in the outer banks. It’s a real wildtrack on a big bend - all courtesy of Ford.

When the Bronco finally arrives, all prospective owners must take an oath to Ford at the dealership prior to purchase:

People buying base Sports don’t care for anything you listed though. They’re buying base models to have less electronics, not more. “Objectively better” is mute for what a Wrangler is and the Bronco will be. This is a niche segment.

And I get that. But it should come at a discount to lose those features. Jeep needs to match the base bronco in factory options and price with the sport S, and also offer the sport but for probably $25k. That would make sense. (Of course, the profit margins on a $25k sport may make it unsustainable. Also, sports make up hardly any of the volume but I’m sure the base bronco will be the same. Nobody wants base vehicles anymore)

I applaud Ford for jumping into this segment, and by all rights I am okay with how the Bronco looks and it’s stats.

Jeep can do better with the wrangler though. I see them continuing to dominate the segment, but they will lose sales to the Bronco.

I’ve said it before and got some flack, but believe a lot of wrangler owners really buy it because it is fun to drive. These owners don’t off-road a lot or do hardcore trips to Moab. They just have a fun SUV to drive, take the top off, doors, etc. so Ford is offering the same thing to those consumers.

So many people on this forum shame guys like myself because I bought a Jeep and label me a mall crawler. And those same people bash the Bronco for not being able to hold a finger to the Wrangler. However if you really look at the audience that buys the mass majority of these vehicles, I believe the Bronco currently comes out ahead.

IFS gives it a better daily driver aspect, the door and top configuration makes it easier to take stuff on and off, and it’s styling is retro to the old school Bronco just like the old school wrangler is to the JL.

Jeep has something to accomplish here, which IMO is to provide more standard features at the same price points as current models, and step up to the plate with the JL shortcomings (better standard axle gearing, stronger front axle on all models, options for drive modes, available options on all trims, etc).

Pretty cool.

Q. Can you explain the difference between modular and non-modular hardtops.
A
. The non-modular top is a four piece top with removable top panels. The modular top is a six piece top with removable top panels as well as removable rear windows.

now, i assume with either the whole top can be removed...kinda confused there.
It means that the bronco will have 3 times the potential leak points, all to make an easy task even easier.

I think his point is that spec will be hard to find at a dealer - likely will have more options. Will have to be ordered and will be interesting to see if actual demand lives up to the hype and for how long, I predict serious ADM and initial buyers will take whatever gets built. Then it will settle down and time will tell how it goes in the longer term.

All Jeep needs to do is evolve the JL. Many are buying into the brand and image rather than the actual performance. As long as that stays intact (and enthusiasts help to make that happen), incremental improvements will be sufficient.

Well for the first year or so you can order the EXACT bronco you want with a preorder.

And there are several dealerships offering significantly below invoice, along with Bronco being eligible for X-plan which means you get .4% under invoice with zero haggling at any dealership.
