What I mean by Porsche is the ability to purchase a base vehicle and adding 30k in options that do nothing for performance. I don’t want to see Jeep slip at all on their off-road performance and think they should continue optioning to make it better (rubicon, Mopar lift etc). I am concerned that if they don’t adapt to soccer moms more on add ons that they will be forced to make a large change to make it more roadworthy the next redesign. Most buyers would never see the difference between a JL’s performance and a Bronco. I am hoping Jeep can justify keeping the more expensive equipment and make large margins on cosmetic changes. What scares me is losing the mainstream audience to ford and redesigning to be more street oriented to take back market share.

Not sure if these have been shared yet. Talking Points from FCA Jeep v. Bronco Sheets making the rounds...

why couldn’t they have put the differential in the middle on the solid front axle diagram? Is it intentionally off-center because they thought it looked too close to the ground and not much difference from their IFS diagram? I’m not disputing the SFA for off-road, but they coulda made a better diagram.

People in another thread were somehow faulting Ford for being good marketers ...with the Bronco on its heels, I guess FCA finally thinks it has to market as well.

I doubt that would sell very well, lol.
But that actually means a SFA vehicle has more clearance on one side than the other...

B/c a front axle is offset?
Seriously. I feel like an idiot lol, it's CLEARLY offset -- and not by a little ...how have I not seen that before?? -- don't answer that.

I feel like Jeep needs to optimize offroad performance on the next model (JM?).

They really need a better drivetrain layout with higher frame clearance on the 4 doors particularly.
Yes. FCA played it too safe with JL in my opinion. It focused mostly on improving the elements that grow sales, like increased refinement, comfort and assembly quality. And JL’s been a relative sales success because of it.

But JL didn’t push the envelope sufficiently in the areas that make off-roaders drool. On the trail, JL is merely a mild evolution of JK. For instance, imagine if Jeep offered portal axles and onboard air as factory options.

This’d normally be a sign that Jeep executives lack the vision to lead. Which Bronco is now making glaringly obvious on a number of areas, without even having yet hit the market.

But Wrangler is still in a good position to pick up where it left off and retain off-road leadership.

I don't think that's leadership at Ford...just realizing there's an untapped market of Ford buyers looking for something more refined for the street than what Jeep offers.
I didn't say it was leadership at Ford. I said it shows lack of leadership at Jeep.

The burden to lead is always on the market leader. When it comes to off-roading, it is on Jeep.

Well, if the diagram was the other way around (i.e. the front right wheel on the obstacle) then the diff have much more clearance over that obstacle than the IFS.

I dunno, as I've made it clear, I'm no off-roader, I rely on you to set me straight. lol

You did not. Apologies. Thought you were saying that Ford was showing leadership in the way it was releasing Bronco.
No worries.

Ford clearly benchmarked Wrangler in Bronco’s development. That’s what challenger brands do.

FWIW, I have learned over the years to keep my expectations in check with Ford: it tends to over-promise and underdeliver more than most.

Ford has gone to such extremes with Bronco teases that some of it is starting to sound like over-promises. We will have to wait...and wait...and wait and see.

The JL will have a turbo, diesel, hybrid, hemi, and a truck.

and for high-speed off-road the Mojave is significantly better than anything ever offered on a JK.

I agree that for trails it’s just an evolution on the jk but i also agree that they have the platform that will allow them to continue to lead.
