I don’t think I was shot at. Not much traffic or aggressive behavior going on. My deductible is $1,000. Called a local Bodyshop and got it for $400. I’m not even mad! Love this Jeep.
Glass deductible may be lower then your other deductibles. Check with your insurance company...

I've driven with rear window up about 5 times carrying long 2x4, never an issue, on or off-road.

Check that the vents in your tailgate are not being held closed for some reason. There is a ton of pressure in jeeps with hardtops, those vents release it. I’ve heard of people blowing out windows after covering those vents with tailgate accessories.

I don't recall our main comp/collision deductible, $500 I think, but with glass coverage the deductible for glass is $0 (State Farm). Ask your agent. One catch is that the glass is covered, but incidental damage like latches and such might fall under the comp deductible (not sure).

Hit up your favorite search engine for “exploding vehicle roof glass.” You’ll find a lot of useful information there, including causes and class actions. It’s a modern phenomenon. Rarer on Jeeps, yes, but perhaps that trove of info will prove useful?

Likely you do not have one of those always on rear view cameas nor one on the front either. Thinking back to the incident, can you recall how much traffic was around and/or near you.

Sure sounds like a ball bearing shot from a sling shot by a passing car/truck. Check the interior for such items.

Wouldn't there most likely be evidence of it? Unless it was something like a BB gun.
That's what I was thinking. BB gun, maybe pellet.

First post. Love this Jeep. Long time forum creeper. Joined yesterday. While driving to work today had cruise control set at 68 top back windows down. I hear a loud explosion and look behind me. There’s no window. Glass everywhere, parts hanging. Stopped at the Jeep dealership on my way into work - service advisor chuckled and said this will be an expensive repair for you. I asked would this not be covered under warranty. He told me not to hold my breath. $2000 repair. 2023 diesel rubicon w/sot. 40k problem free miles. Have not been to the dealership once. It does feel nice having the air blow through - I thought about removing the rear glass. This was just a quicker way to do it. Just out of curiosity how many people have experienced this?

Jeep Wrangler JL BOOM!! Exploding rear glass while driving IMG_5865

Happened to me driving out of my garage. Glass exploded with a loud bang. Clearly nothing hit it and no BB gun shot....totally random. Insurance would have covered it but I had it fixed under the original factory warranty (had a few months left). The fix is a bit more complicated than just replacing the glass. There are other parts that will need to be replaced.

Look on eBay , not that expensive and cant be too hard to install. Depending if you have a deductible through insurance , you can try going through warranty but if there are little to no cases your probably wasting your time

I had that happen years ago in a work vehicle. I was stopped on the shoulder and the culprit was a tiny pebble that was kicked up by a passing truck.

It hit in the lower corner just right and the whole rear window blew out.

I had this happen on a rear side window in an F150 a week after purchase. Ford would not cover and claimed it had to be hit by something. I was literally turning into my driveway and it just shattered. Biggest issue was the badly scratched paint on my new truck. Eventually the dealer split the cost with me - best I could do. I used to work in the glass/window industry. Improper tempering can easily cause a defective run of glass - just no real way to prove it and the dealers and manufacturers know this. Good luck and hope you find a way to cover this.

are you sure you were not shot at?
This is unrelated but one time I put a case of coke zero in the trunk and leave the car out side during one of those polar vortex.. One of them exploded while I was driving.. I didnt know what it was and seriously thought I got shot.

Here is a somewhat related tip. For whatever reasons, on occassion a rear window will crack into a kazillion little pieces (but) it has not blown out as remains where it is.

My tip is assuming you are gonna take it to a window shop or have them come to your place, do NOT get in the cab with all the windows up and close the door................:headbang:

Closing the door with the windows up in that situation WILL blow out that rear window........don't ask me how I know that.
