I spent the last few hours researching batteries for my jl that is dead in the garage and chat gpt keeps changing its computer mind.

My aux battery died at 36552 miles. Still waiting to hear back from the dealership on a lol goodwill replacement on the pair lol.

So here's my specs. Not much for added electrical, but I have to deal will the evil AZ temps.

Chat gpt doesn't recommend a yellow top or odyssey but the duralast platinum for both. It did say for awhile a yellow top with a Goodyear aux14. Plus it even went as far as using a yellow top D34/78 and replace the battery tray with the Goodyear aux combo.

So I was wondering if anyone had some positive feedback on a good battery combo or does it not really matter and just go to Costco and save a few bucks due to the AZ climate?

Thanks in advance

I’m in the heat as well and I haven’t had any problems with my yellow top…. December will be 4 years… I also deleted the aux battery since I don’t use the ESS…. No issues fitting in the factory tray…

None... but it pays well.
Walmart platinum H7 or H8 if you lightly mod... but is time consuming if not deleting Aux battery and its cables. Kill two birds with one stone approach.

Did Moab and Cali in 100°F heat A/C and running hard. Started just as easy as in 70°F temps without issues .

I have had nothing but good luck with Optima batteries for over 30 years. My
Optima batteries will normally last 10-12 years, but I do replace them when they get that old just to be on the safe side.

The key thing to getting longevity out of your battery, has to start with the quality of the battery. Cheap batteries are made cheap thus will not last as long as a quality battery will last. You get what you pay for it.

Also, another factor, is how you maintain the charge state of the AGM battery. AGM batteries do not like to be in a constant discharged state for long periods of time and do not like to be in state below a specific voltage level.

If you do not drive your vehicle routinely and get the battery fully charged between starting cycles, the battery will deteriorate over time. If that is the case that you do not drive your vehicle daily, you should be maintaining the battery charge state with a quality AGM Smart Charger if you want to get any longevity out of your battery.

If you use a cheapo battery charger your AGM battery will not provide the expected longevity that an AGM battery will provide.

There is nothing wrong with the Optima and Odyssey batteries. They are very good quality batteries if you maintain them properly, these batteries are not batteries that you can install and just forget them, unless those batteries are in vehicles that are driven daily and never sit for any length of time and get fully charge between starting cycles.

Last year, I installed the Genesis Gen 3 Dual Battery System with the Odyssey 25 batteries in my 23 Wrangler Rubi 2 Dr. 3.6L eTorque. It has been only a year and so far so good.

Since, I don't drive my Jeep daily, I use the Odyssey 25 Smart Battery Charger to main the batteries in the Jeep between the times I do drive the Jeep. The Odyssey battery charger is not cheap and will cosf around $500. The secondary battery in the powers the refrigerator, winch, air compressor, and some minor accessories.

I do have the Auto Start Stop feature, however I have the Auto Start Stop Eliminator Harness installed and I keep the feature constantly disabled. I still have the 48 Volt Lithium battery installed in the rear underneath the vehicle. I'm not positive on this, but I think the battery is still required for the eTorque system to function, so I'm leaving it alone and I'm not seeing a reason to take it out.

I have six other Optima batteries that range from three to nine years of age and they are humming along just fine mainly because I have the Optima chargers maintaining them. I have been using this method of maintaining them for almost 30 years and never had a battery failure situation.

I do recall forum members who live in the southwest mentioning the long-term effect of heat on the long-term health of any vehicle battery. As you're a local, you'd know better than I if that's something that will affect how frequently battery replacements need to occur.

The conventional wisdom is to replace both batteries at the same time, if you intend to keep both in service. The battery tray can accommodate both an H6, and the slightly larger and stronger H7 if a press-fit spacer block is removed. Just make sure that the main battery has the AGM designation.

Note that the prior suggestion of an H8 battery will also require cutting surgery to make it fit.

When my OEM H6 departed this Vale of Tears, I installed a larger Interstate H7 AGM, and isolated the original ESS battery via the accepted method of disconnected its Negative cable and removing Fuse F42 from the PDC.

I myself have cold temperatures to consider, where battery longevity is concerned. The factory battery lasted 4 years, almost to the day. I'm hoping its replacement provides at least a 60 month service life, which is my personal standard for any 12V vehicle battery.

I was under the impression that the group H6 and H7 batteries would fit the JL. For the H7, if upgrading from the H6 (which I recommend) I believe a spacer/cleat of sorts has to be unscrewed from the bottom of the empty battery tray first.

Do H8's fit as well?

Somewhere in a thread I made here over 13 months ago shows what you can do to fit a H8 battery. I think you need to cut a 2" width at battery side of the fuse box stand end that is mounted to the battery tray.

Here is my setup...

I made the Aux battery cable a secondary body ground from the IBS.

I got the Braille Aux battery and I'll replace it prob next year, given how much stuff I have to do before it gets cold. I'll replace the main one with a Full River H7.
