My OEM battery only lasted a little over a year. We'll see on the new vehicles... new JTRD and new JLR all built/new within a month of each other.

That said I carry a portable jumper (that can also power small USB devices) with me at all times after the JLUR had battery issues.
@guarnibl

Wish I had a dollar for every guy that over the last 3 yrs. has posted on the JL forum the.... "I carry a portable charger" and........ Yup, if I had a dollar for each time... 8-)

Anyway, more often then not, the JL owner with such a "portable charger, even a top notch one, falls flat on his or her face when the time comes when they think , their portable charger will bail them out of a no start situation in regard to their stock dual battery system...

Not to belabor the point.... just want to encourage you to do your homework, lets say...... or that "portable jumper" will not be enough ... well, it might... maybe, be enough, if you use it in exactly the right way and only in certain no start scenarios.

Your actually far far better off with a decent set of jumper cables.... and of course a 12v donor vehicle.

That donor vehicle might be hard to find in Lockhart Basin.

I don't think there would be a problem if you have the aux battery disconnected, or if you have a 2018 with jumper from N1 to N2.

After spending $300 on a new battery I was hesitant to spend another $100 on a jump starter so I didn't. Maybe someday I will.

Another thing- according to what I see on the internet a lot of those jump starters won't do it. One youtuber was testing them on his 4.0L Jeep and some would start it, some wouldn't. I only found about 3 brands that were demonstrated to work.

I don't think it's realistic to always carry a donor vehicle, haha. It's just one additional tool in my recovery bag, including jumper cables. That said, it's been used dozens of times at this point without failure. But it doesn't mean it'll work the next time.

I think the point is that the dual battery setup is an obstacle to some of the jump starters.
Yep. I see that now after researching. My previous JLUR didn't have a dual battery setup. I believe both my JTRD and my JLR now, however, do have dual batteries. So I'll need to do some testing/research there.

All of the JL/JLU models have dual batteries.

Well, my 2019 did not have an aux battery is what I meant (which is what most folks are referring to when they say dual battery). It was the 48v mild hybrid setup. I was suggesting this may have been why I was able to jump start without issue each time as there was no AUX battery to interfere. Another odd thing I noticed is that my 2019 was much smoother with auto start/stop vs my '21 with the same 4 cyl.

I have a lithium jump start in all my vehicles. We live out west and often travel alone. So the comfort of having the DIY tools is good.
I also carry electric tire inflator, and a tire plug kit
Here are a couple of many links that do comparative testing on jump start devices.

Yup, I was driving in northern NM back country and a guy was standing beside his car with his arm out holding jumper cables. I stopped and gave him a jump. He said he had been waiting for hours. To each his own.
@PaulW

Won't belabor the point, BUT if you ever get up to speed so to speak in regard to the JL's, stock dual battery system.... and after that you weed through the many many posts on this forum, that mention battery packs not working.... not knowing how to connect them,....etc. etc..... and you might just understand that it is not that easy to use a "jump starter", successfully on a JL...

In closing clueless guys ... if I had a dollar for every post they have made on this forum in regard to "jump starter's". Also, I own a top notch portable vehicle jump starter... and it sits in the garage... I keep quality jumper cables in the JL.

Yes, jump starter's can and do sometimes work with the JL.... but not if the guy / gal that is using them on the JL are clueless...

Last comment on this by me..

2.0 w/eTorque. I might throw a cheap set of cables in the second vehicle this Summer but I will have a portable jump starter too. Nothing wrong with redundancy but there’s only so much room for STUFF.

@DadJokes

As long as a guy/gal does their homework in regard to the JL, then, a decent jump starter unit, applied properly will indeed, very often, get a JL started... but ... it is not a given.

Unfortunately, you get guys/gals that think, they can just attach a jump starter to a JL like they would attach to say their old Chevy, Ford or new Prius, etc... Well, not so with the JL.

Jumper cable method is a bit more forgiving in regard to the JL.

A guy / gal, more often then not, needs to know about their batteries..... how to separate the batteries out, on a JL and then know how to apply the jump starter... to where ..

Unfortunately, MOST JL and JT owner's are pretty clueless.. Some don't even know how many batteries their JL/JT has, where they are located, how to separate them out, how to disco both batteries, and more..
There is a real learning curb and most just ... just.... well don't worry about it until the a battery(s) acts up or they read posts like this..

Well, I should be good not having that pesky, troublesome aux battery setup. I’ve got the Uber friendly eTorque. lol

LOL, Don't be so sure about that..... do your homework (learn about your 12v) setup, as your JL is not that, "peachy" either...

That was sarcasm. Although I’ve not heard of much complaint since 2019. Shrug We’ll see if that 80k mile emissions warranty is needed. It’ll probably go out at 80,001 miles. lol

20+ years of commuting 60,000+ miles per year and wheeling a half dozen different jeeps and I could count the use of jumper cables on 1 hand. On what dilapidated charging system are you using a jump box "dozens" of times?
