So I've read the entire thread pretty much. It seems as though the best thing to do is tap into trailer tow wiring? Where are these wires located in the two photos below? Or does the harness run through the interior where its better to tap into?

https://www.bajadesigns.com/products/s2-sport-black-flush-mount-led-auxiliary-light-pod-reverse-kit/

That is the kit I bought. The harness has a red and black wire and also a switch.

I'm just trying to figure out which cable to tap into and where it is located. E

Following others advice/installs I made all connections inside the left/passenger side taillight cavity, using reverse wire from the factory tow package wire harness, which runs through that area. My thought was making connections there would provide a little more protection from the elements. In your middle picture the harness/wiring travels up through the taillight cavity from that point.

Hey @fxceptioN, The red wire on our harness will be the positive and the black wire will be the negative. Depending on the orientation of your trailer brake plug and the wire colors this will determine where you will need to splice into. I can sell the Y splitter available in our hitch light kit if you want to leave the factory wiring alone and add the additional 2-pin hookup. This option will be plug-and-play as long as you have the 2 light to one connector splitter.
Best,
Brandon

can you link me to it so I can see what it looks like compared to the harness I have?

I don't have a link to the product as it is not sold individually on our website but I have attached a photo of it. I can help you get this order directly if you would like. The splitter is something that you should have if you purchased the reverse kit from us and the link to that is below.

All, after about two months of research, reading, procuring and planning I finally joined the backup lights club. The project spanned two days as I had to not just run the wire and do all of the electrical but I also installed a new after market powder-coat steel bumper from Body Armor. Picts are below.

This was a fun project and I highly recommend it for any Jeeper as the OEM lighting for backing up is not good!

Thank you to all of you on this thread and these great forums. It is one of the reasons why I love my (third) Jeep so much. It is this community and the creativeness of the members here that make it my extended family and make projects like this not just possible but fun! :)

Special thanks to @Luco and @Rhinebeck01 for starting this thread, referring people to it and continuing to help and provide guidance for the rest of us!

My parts list:

Body Armor 4x4 WRANGLER JL ORION REAR BUMPER (these guys rock btw):
https://bodyarmor4x4.com/products/jl-2966-orion-rear-bumper?variant=40168498036797

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TVQ4LQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ran 4 conductor (4 wire), 16gauge wire from the battery to the rear via the passenger side frame as others have done. This gives me 3 extra wires should I ever need them front to back:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B944KWMN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s04?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wire was protected with PET braided sleeving:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074GM1PK1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1

I forgot who mentioned these in this thread but thank you! These are the coolest parts to not just connect and solder but also heat shrink all at once your connections (a life saver!):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S62KYSL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

One of two golden recommendations from @Rhinebeck01 for this project, the T-tap at the trailer lighting cluster: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMC5DII/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The other recommendation being the liquid electrical tape: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FPAN2K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

And last but not least I am sure, I wired the lights to both the reverse light as well as my Aux3 switch, so make sure to diode up:

And totally need to paint the exhaust black (@Rhinebeck01 this is a callback for you. ;-)). Big difference, especially with a new aftermarket bumper. Cheers.

You no matter what will have to run a wire from engine back to Oracle light. You can tap into 'reverse light" wiring in the engine compartment but that will be connected to a singular diode to wire to Oracle lights or a dual input diode to Oracle lights. Then is you did a singular diode versions, you need a second diode from Aux switch wire into another diode and then tie into wire from the first diode to wire going back to Orable light. OR if you use a the dual input diode, first input will be from tow tapped wire & second input from Aux switch and singular output will run back to Oracle light and then oracle light ground just grounded out at rear of your Jeep.

The single input to single output diode (would need 2X):
Roadmaster 690 Single Park Light Diode

With this method you would have to tie the 2 wires coming from each of these diodes outputs together and run to Oracle light.

OR

the dual input to single output diode (would need 1X):
Roadmaster 790 Hy-Power Diode

With this method the singular output would be run down to Oracle light.
Found this poking around, used the Roadmaster 2 into 1 for my KC rear facing lights. Works great, used Aux 4 for one input and they work when in reverse on the other input. Thanks for the links.

I originally connected my backup lights to the white wire with an orange trace behind the 7 way plug. I thought it would be nice to use them as auxiliary lights as well. I placed a diode in the circuit from Aux 4 and ran the wire to the back upswing the frame as a conduit. I put a diode in the Supply line from the Oem backup circuit and tied all of them together. By using the diodes I prevent feed back from either circuit. I used 10 amp diodes even though the LED backup lights only pull less than an amp. I have tested in in multiple scenarios and everything seems to work correct.

Can a single Roadmaster 790 2-in-1-out diode be utilized to achieve this wiring scheme? I can’t find information specifying if the inputs on the 790 remain isolated from each other.

Came across some brackets from the bronco world and it seems I can’t find similar products for the JL. One downside is changing the spare tire.

Possibly the Mopar 3rd brake light relocation bracket can be used for such lighting mount.

Looks cool but would be a pain every time I rotate the tires. Hmm, something to think about?

Definitely a good point - when I moved my plate to the spare and had to wire up the light I made sure to think ahead on how to disconnect it all when rotating tires:

Through the years, I've used quick-disconnects for precisely the same reason. Example.
