New owner here - this is my first Wrangler!

I stumbled into this thread trying to figure out if this is a common issue as our '18 had this happen - black screen and check surroundings message - with 98 miles on the odometer and 5 days of ownership. It occurred after a thunderstorm, so we assumed water intrusion. Now I understand why the dealer has had the car a week to fix this and other things!

I've had my Wrangler a little over a year and today was the first time I lost the backup camera to a black screen. I just checked it again after letting it sit for 1-2 hours and its working again...for now.

The fix for my JL was to make sure all of the fuses were seated properly. About half of them weren’t and once I pushed them all in properly I haven’t had a problem with the reverse camera since.

I could tell you, but then....
Seems like there isn't a clear reason for this problem. Mine went out for a few days and came back one. Sometimes I feel like it happens when it rains? Wondering if anyone else has noticed that? Its definitely getting more frequent which is concerning.
Mine did the same, and then the whole system locked up. Finally had to pull the fuse to reset it as it wouldn't power down (even with ignition off and door closed.) My dealership ordered me a new radio and will install when I return to the States from this assignment.

Appreciate it, but all my fuses are seated properly as it was the first thing I did when I got it home. My 8.4 UConnect has been good until yesterday, and it's been dry for the past few days so water has nothing to do with it either.

It's just a software bug. You can either let the vehicle sit long enough for uconnect to shut down entirely, or pull the fuses to force a full restart. At either point the problem goes away (until next time).

As a software guy, I'm guessing there's some sort of race condition when the vehicle powers up and all the various components are initializing. That would explain (1) why it happens with a relatively low-probability, and (2) why FCA hasn't fixed it yet, because race conditions can be notoriously difficult to diagnose and fix.

I am sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with your Wrangler. It sounds like it's currently at the dealer. If you need any assistance with the servicing process, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I just got this today while parallel parking. I guess I'm lucky. The blind spot behind this vehicle is huge. I'm ashamed to say I've become dependant on the backup camera I'm already on my second radio (which comes with a surprise cancellation of the free first year of Sirius...yay?). First radio had the touch screen lockup issue. Second has backup camera issue. I kind of want to go back to something analog without software.

I just started having this problem as well, 2019 sahara. Was working intermittently for a while, now it's out completely.

I had this issue a few weeks ago for the first time and as others had said after a full reboot it worked again. Pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery.

Good afternoon. Even if this is more an U.S. JL owners forum I suppose I can address my issues here as well – although being a 1st-time JL owner from Germany.

Same problem: A black screen when backing this morning. Happened the first time this morning. After a few hours not moving the car it was working again. Hope this will now not be a regular issue.

I would appreciate to get in contact with @JeepCares. Due to the fact that I also have an ongoing issue with the ā€œSERV 4WDā€ alert lamp on from time to time.
It happened for the first time after approx. 150 miles driving back from the dealer with a brand new JL :o( (photo documented). The local dealer already tried to exchange a servo motor but the lamp keeps coming up again :o(
German dealers seem to be a bit helpless. I found more bugfixes in this forums (e.g. audio shutdown) than by visiting German dealers.

Pls. feel free to guide my to a forum where this issue was already discuss (and solved?).

It’s my first non-german car and I’m a huge Jeep fan (besides of U.S: motorcycles from Milwaukee…). Hopefully this will not be a never ending bug story.
Thx in advance for any kind of problem-solving suggestions.

I’ve had the same issue with the Check Entire Surroundings screen.

I also have had other issues........a constant tone (like the backup warning sound) during a complete trip. It would drop the volume of the radio........very annoying. Was gone when I started the Jeep the next day. Have also experienced the No Audio syndrome numerous times as well. It is my understanding from @JeepCares there are no radio software updates.

My closest dealer is approximately 1 hour door to door, so i can never duplicate the problem when I have a day available to take it in.
