backup camera suddenly stopped working

I’ve had the same issue with the Check Entire Surroundings screen.

I also have had other issues........a constant tone (like the backup warning sound) during a complete trip. It would drop the volume of the radio........very annoying. Was gone when I started the Jeep the next day. Have also experienced the No Audio syndrome numerous times as well. It is my understanding from @JeepCares there are no radio software updates.

My closest dealer is approximately 1 hour door to door, so i can never duplicate the problem when I have a day available to take it in.

Hi All,
Just this morning my back up camera stopped working.
Whe I shift into Reverse nothing happens on the screen, even when I press the back up camera icon nothing changes.
Anybody had this experience,
will give it another try later today, hopefully it will reset by itself

Yesterday I downloaded the newest version of Uconnect so that I could get off road pages. I think it was version 21 updated May 2019. All went well. I have off road pages. Later in the afternoon, I noticed my backup camera was not working. The screen was blank like the picture above. Today all is normal again.

My backup camera is doing the exact same issues where the screen is black with no picture and says Check Entire Surroundings. Before calling anyone, I decided to search online and came upon this website and this thread in particular. I bought my JL on July 20th in which this is my first ever Jeep. I drove it off of the lot with 320 miles on it. I noticed the issue around 500-700 miles but didn't think a whole lot about it as it only happened sporadically. However, at just over 2,000 miles today, this issue happened 5 times, including turning the Jeep off and opening the doors with no luck in it working again. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It will fix itself after it sits for a few hours. It takes a while for the entire system to shut down completely after the vehicle is parked.

This still happens to me maybe once a month. Most of the time I lose only the guidance lines on the display, but sometimes the whole thing is black.

the dealer should have a download to "help" it didn't work on mine...

Not sure if you have the Alpine rear view camera, but if so, it works absolutely wonderful... except... the cable was never meant to be flexed. As the rear gate is opened and closed the wire is under stress and will eventually break. How soon.. well that depends on how the cable is routed to the frame. I took care to ensure maximum bend radius and it still broke after about 150 open/closures. Not what I would call longevity. I found a broken wire where the wire bends as the gate swings open/close.

Brand new JLU rubicon. Less than a week old less than 300 miles. Had the same issue. Checked the fuses pulled 97 the radio reset and now the camera option doesn’t even exist on the system. I put the car in reverse and nothing happens :-(?????

I did the update last weekend to Uconnect using "UCONNECT_8.4_IR21.10_MY18JL_VP4R_USA.zip" got the black screen last night. Shut The Jeep off, let it sit for an hour, tried again, nothing. This morning it was fine. Go figure. (Gremlins) . On a side note, this shows some pretty terrible software engineering from The Jeep Team. Yea the Offroad Pages work now but the GPS coordinates and Altitude show up sometimes, sometimes they don't or they just disappear out of the blue. The QA on this release is terrible. Get your act together folks!

2020 JLUR, Only 2000 km on it my jeep has defective and missing parts but failing backup camera is worse because I can't do without it probably I am gonna hit someone or something. Our local dealers know nothing about Wranglers and FCA Canada customer care doesn't care about us. (Just saying for new buyers, know what you put yourself into, think twice!)

My JL has 24,500 miles on it. Its been sitting a week as I have been enjoying the nice weather in my YJ. Last night it dropped 30 degrees here in northern South Carolina. I left before sunrise to get some breakfast. I noticed immediately my backup camera was not working again. I can count one one hand the number of times it has happened. Its just annoying. I will go out later today and the camera will be working again.

I just cant see letting the dealer tear up my jeep trying to fix this.
