I did my first two free oil changes with the dealer on my ‘25 Rubicon X. Today I changed it myself for the first time and 6 damn quarts came out! The manual clearly states 5 quarts so I called the dealer and the service advisor said “they put what it needs and the VIN lookup says 6 quarts”. She said every VIN is different. I called BS on it and she transferred me to the parts guy as a second validation. He looked up my VIN and said “nope, it definitely takes 5 quarts”. P.S. the oil pan bolt required me using an impact wrench to loosen! Had to be 80-100 ft/lbs! I’ll never take it in for something I can do myself. Unbelievable.
They messed up, plus they put Made in Republic of Congo oil in your Jeep. Do it yourself and put this goodness in your Jeep, 3 jugs for $69

The 5 qt vs 6 qt has been a debate since day one of the JL. I just add 5.5.
there should be no debate the owners manual calls for 5 qt the oil pan changed when they went from JK to JL...5qts puts mine at the top of the dipstick I would not want it higher than the full mark.

I knew well before my Jee* arrived at the dealer that my *eep Wave benefit wouldn't ever be used. I prefer to maintain our vehicles myself to the extent possible, and have done exactly that with not just my J*ep but also the Hon*as that my wife has owned. I'll bunt to the dealership only when a repair is beyond my skillset. Thus far, that's been a thankfully rare occurrence.

oil in and oil out..I mark every jug before I change so know exactly what comes out...the few ounces in the filter and the residue in the oil drain pan not being accounted for would be pretty much out=in..

That’s smart. Then if you have an oil leak it gives you some wiggle room on the oil level until the next oil change. 🤓
except overfilling is not really desirable...will the 3.6 pentastar have issues probably not but having your crank whipping up the oil can happen altho not sure on the pentastar how much over filling that would take...probably more than 1/2 a quart over full..people often think fuller is better but not necessarily the case......sometimes if towards the full mark more blow by can happen...every one has to do what makes them warm and fuzzy and for me it is putting in what the designers call for.

My response is 100% sarcasm as I thought @kah.mun.rah was being sarcastic, but maybe I jumped to that conclusion.

🤓=my remark that preceded this was sarcastic

I put exactly 5.817 quarts in my 2.0t. I have an aftermarket oil pan that holds an additional 0.5 quarts and the 0.317 quarts are for good measure. I find the dipstick in these engines incredibly hard to read and get right, with the tube also being too small and the stick too flimsy.

“That’s what she said”

I love that I can change the oil in my Rubicon without having to use a jack or ramps. I can get under the Jeep with plenty of room to spare and easily do the oil change. My Jeep will never see a dealership for anything but warranty work...

i think the exactly 5 qts is a little overblown. Has anyone foamed their oil at 6 in a 5qt pan? I have not heard anyone, and they would be here yelling.

The engine took 6 until the PUG, and even then some like the GC still take 6.

Very easy mistake to make all things considered

I do all my own oil changes and buy the 5 quart jugs so pretty foolproof for me. What would the long term consequences be from overfilling the oil by only one quart? Unlike you, I am not a mechanic, so I am having trouble thinking of anything catastrophic.
