Me?

My kids are grown and long gone, with kids of their own. Just the wife and I now and we both like the looks of the 2dr, so that's the way we'll go when we make our purchase. But I'll freely admit that the 4dr is more practical in many respects. It's also what outnumbers the 2dr by a wide margin sales.

As others have mentioned, it's down to whether or not you need the extra space for kids/travel/etc. My daily driver is a base Sport 2.0T/auto 2-door, my wife's is a Sport S 3.6/auto 4-door. My kids are teenagers and don't mind riding in the back of my 2-door at all, but if we are all out somewhere you can't fit more than a couple cases of bottled water in the back or a few bags of groceries as mentioned. Even loading my acoustic guitar in is a pain; I usually just slide the front seat back and let it ride shotgun. Most of the time I'm commuting by myself anyway so it's a non-issue.

As far as offroad, I would imagine either Rubicon is extremely capable. My 2-door with Rubicon springs/shocks/wheel/tire combo did not drag at all in other places where longer/lower vehicles did (there was a Gladiator Sport running with us on the same trail) - but I think even if he was at Rubicon height it would have been OK.

The 4-door has so much more space inside, and stock for stock, definitely rides a little smoother, but the 2-door is great for parking in tight spaces and city spots where longer vehicles have a hard time fitting.

Good luck with your decision!

1) @jeepoch howdy neighbor (recognized what looks to be wheeler in your pic).

2) Just get a 2 door and eventually stretch it whenever those goods come about :D. My 2 door has done me very well considering.

Only reason I can see buying a 2 door is if your trying to save money. Or if you really think it looks better. I like the 4 door look. I laugh when I see people write you need a 2 door to off road or that it's soo much better for off roading. Whatever lol... There are trucks even bigger than a 4 door Jeep that do amazing off road.

OP, get whatever one makes you happy. In all reality the 2 door isn't really going to do anything better.

I dunno, I could have got a 4dr for about the same $$ as my 2 dr S. I got the 2 dr because with just the wife, dog, and I it’s got plenty of room. I like the very tight turning radius of the 2 dr. It fits my needs and desires perfectly

During my longish lifetime I have owned 4 single seaters: A 1954 Singer Roadster, 1959 MGA, 1985 Corvette, and a 1985 Porsche Speedster. After upon buying my 2019 Sport S and pulling the back seat out to use in my man cave I have the feeling of owning a roadster again.

I went with 2 door version all my life. The Rubicon I have on order is just for pure fun, short day trips, trail riding on occasion, and will be our choice when we head into the city. I love the short length when trying to navigate and park in crowded places. If we had kids at home the 4 door would be our choice.
The day after I drive the JL home the back seat will come out.
It was easy to choose the 2 door because we are fortunate enough to also own a full size PU and SUV.

I do miss the coziness of my first Wrangler, a 1995 YJ (so by definition, two doors). We'll be empty nesters in <1 year, too, and Mrs. H has a newer SUV, so I could have easily chosen the JL when configuring my new Jeep last autumn. I chose the JLU, though. I chalk it up to just being more practical as the years go by.

More to the point: for the first time in 20 years, I don't own a pickup truck. I had one look at the interior of a JLU with the rear seat folded down, and concluded that it was a reasonable proxy for my occasional cargo carrying requirements. That certainly wasn't so with the two door, full stop.

Tough one, there are times I wish I had a 2 door and more times I’m glad I had a four door. If you are more likely talking lots of gear in the rocks for extended time frames, go 4 door... if not go 2 door... both are awesome... here is mine in light weight sand form and another pick heading deep in the rocks for a week ( dusy)...lots of gear and weight. Hope that helps...

When you have a 2 door you figure out how to carry all the gear you show on your second picture. Plus you can spend the saved money on a cool offroad squaredrop camper!
