So ive had my rubicon since memorial day weekend in may. Ive added the overall time my car has been at the dealer getting repaired. It adds up to 9.5 weeks.

First visit being powersteering fluid being low. Found no leaks when it was topped off and taken for a spin.

Second visit (2 weeks later) being the power steering hose leaking where rubber meats metal fitting. They ended up changing both pressure and return hoses and still noticed it still getting moisture. So they changed the pump as well and all eas well. That repair was for 2.5 weeks mainly waiting on parts.

Third visit (2.5 weeks later) was for the electronic issue it was having out on a trail in mammoth lakes, Ca. Trail was fairly easy nothing to fully push the JL to its limits and it would constantly go into neutral while the shifter was in Drive. The cluster would tell me that the stability control needs to be serviced and to shift into Park and re select a gear. In doing so i would probably move about 20 to 60 feet when it would re-occur having to do the gear selection again. Eventually the check engine light would come on and i would turn the car off and restart it and eventhou the check engine light and stability control light would be on i would be able to travel a longer distance without it happening again. Upon our arrival to a lake i turned the car off and opened the hood and let it cool down. The day wasnt too hot it was around 86° and i was going through the trail without the AC on. 2 hrs later when we decided to head back i turned her on and no check engine light or stability control light was on. Happened once again and check engine light came on and i was lucky enough to get back on a paved road without happening again. Let the car sit overnight and took off home the following day which was a 300 mile road trip and no issue and no lights on the cluster. 3 days later it happened again on the freeway. Getting off the freeway it displayed the same messages and check engine and stability control light came on as well as a message saying transmission needs to be serviced and to drive to nearest dealer. Transmission must of went into limp mode because it took forever to speed up. Took it to the dealer and they uploaded a canbus software update that and engineer had written and gave it back to me. This repair laster for 4 days.

Fourth visit (2 days later). Upon my arrival at home from picking it up at the dealer for the above repair, i was able to shut off the engine, but all the electronics stayed on. The shifter was in park and the cluster would tell me to put it into drive to be able to fully turn off the car. It took two hours until it allowed to fully turn off the car and i did nothing to it for those two hours other than being on the phone with FCA. Made an appointment with the dealer because since ive had the jeep ive had to rely on it as my daily drive since im rebuilding the engine on my other vehicle. I figured on turning it on once again and turning it off with success ill be able to drive it to the dealer and to my unfortunate luck it happened once again, going into neutral. Pulled over and put into park. Turned it off and the engine turned off but not the electronics. Unfortunately it stayed that way and it had to be towed to the dealer. The mileage on my jeep is 27xx miles when i dropped it off. They changed the valve body, and it didnt fix the issue and theyve been working with a piece of wiring connector that burnt off. Theyre currently having and engineer fly out to work on the car since their master tech hasnt been able to find the cause of this piece of wiring connector heating up. This repair is currently at 6 weeks.

Throughout this process its been a major inconvenience and a hassle being my daily driver.

Ive emailed mike manley, and corporate called me yesterday. My question is should I push for a buy back and ask for a discount on another rubicon ? Or let them try to repair it and be compensated for the time theyve had my vehicle and inconvenience?

Buy back or lemon law.

Check the lemon laws in your state. It may already qualify for the amount of days it’s been in service.

I’ve read on the forum that the buy backs are done at msrp. Since the msrp has gone up, it may cost you unless you can work a deal with the dealership.

With only 2700 miles and all these problems, you have to wonder about long term reliability. Or you can also go from the perspective that everything is being fixed. I would lemon it. I think you are only scratching the surface of this iceberg.

You hit the right buttons , so sell it back to them , and put your money in the bank . Then think about your next move .

I think the buy back gives you a credit of msrp toward another vehicle at msrp.

If you want your money back, I think you have to lemon it.

Maybe you can sell it to carmax!

This is an excellent reason to never buy from carmax .

Next phone call with corporate i intend to be very frank and let them know of what i want. More than likely the response im going to get is to go pound dirt. At that point is when im going to get a lemon law lawyer and have him/her deal with them. All i want is my money back and a new rubi at invoice. If they offer more than why not but honestly at this point i just want to be to get into another rubi and do my thing not having to deal with anyone or any issue on the vehicle

Having gone thru this with a ram diesel be prepared to be frustrated and annoyed but you have to stay the course. I’d go with the buy back. Whatever the msrp was they will give you in credit towards a vehicle on the ground or one you order. They will give you credit from all accessories you have a receipt for. Cali has some pretty strong consumer protection laws to so that’ll help. Tell them you have lost all confidence in the vehicle to perform as advertised. They prefer a buy back because they can fix it and they’ll ship it several hrs away to go thru the auction. With a lemon law buy back they don’t get nearly the money when it goes to auction if it even does

What does it mean as far as numbers, if they offer a replacement at msrp, does that mean the replacement vehicle will be the same msrp price?

If you get an exact replacement with same options then msrp would normally be the same and it’s an even swap BUT Jeep has raised the msrp by $1,000 since February. Don’t know how that will affect your buy back. Price will most likely be even higher for 2019 model year if you have to place an order instead of buying off the lot.

Basically Jeep is giving you a credit based on the msrp of your current Jeep regardless of what you actually paid. You can use that credit to purchase another Jeep at msrp.

Also, if you purchased any extended warranty make sure those transfer to your new VIN or get a refund.
