I think the 4xe mess has spilled over into ICE resale values. A lot of potential owners will see a loaded 30k 4xe and a mid level 38k ICE and just go with the 4xe because they aren't aware of the issues and just go with the cheaper, loaded option. This has the effect of pulling down ICE values as they need to have some type of parity to sell.
The average consumer has no damn clue what they're buying. They just see a wrangler and nothing else. The amount of owners who bought a 4xe out of ignorance is astounding from a technician standpoint. Most people have no clue about the issues they have before purchase, and some have no clue about the hybrid features at all. Some people even bought them purely due to the lease incentives and never charge them once. This forum is a very small set of mostly informed owners, so it's a bad indicator of actual real world ownership.
At one point we were selling more 4xes than ICE due to the forced 4xe stocking in many states, which just makes the resale problem even worse due to the flood of worthless 4xes that were leased for cheap.
tl;dr; blame the 4xe
