I've got my eye on the M12 1/2" stubby impact wrench, but I'm not sure what battery I need to get the most out of it. Obviously the High Output XC5.0 is the best choice, but I found a sale that includes the tool and two XC3.0 batteries for only $210 :surprised:

I'm comfortable giving up some runtime with the cheaper and smaller batteries, but I don't want to settle if they'll hinder the nut-busting abilities of the tool.

I would only go M12 for the trail bag, and have the HOCPs to keep them compact. I'd 100% go M18 Fuel for the garage, or if you have the room in the bag.

I know they advertise high torques, but I doubt that will loosen a lug nut. My M18 Mid torque advertises 650 lb/ft or "nut busting torque" and about as low as I'd go for buying one for lug nuts, and stuff like trackbars.

Been a few years, but I have used the M12 for a trail tire swap and I'm pretty sure it got correctly torqued lugs off, that's basically it's limit and it's failed in the garage to loosen other fasteners.

I've got the same M18 fuel mid and that has been reliable for me.

Already have the mid torque M18. I want the new Gen 2 M12 stubby, 550 lbft compared to 650 on the M18s.

I can't imagine there's much on a Jeep it couldn't handle.

For the big stuff, I picked up a 3/4" drive Milwaukee M18 2864. So, I have the range covered from a little hex impact, M18 stubby, M18 Mid-torque, and the M18 high torque 3/4 drive.

I have another load of Tekton stuff on the way. Just refining my tools and culling out stuff.

If you have a need specialty automotive hand tools, check out Lisle. U.S. made stuff. I bought a bunch of their stuff recently. Mostly specialty pliers.

My M12 impact performs best during lug nut removal work when using the regular 6.0Ah battery. I can't speak to what benefit, if any, that a battery with the bolded designation would provide.

I do recommend sticking with genuine Milwaukee batteries. I was gifted a pair of ChiCom M12-equivalent batteries. While they do function and accept a charge correctly, their run time is noticeably abbreviated when compared to a factory battery with the same Ah rating.

Good to know about the knock off batteries. I’ve been tempted by them but felt like the money saved might not be worth it.

They have their place. I use them in my Bluetooth speaker, and LED work light. In those applications, the knockoff batteries work very well.

In high-draw use cases, though, like the rotary tool, they peter out a bit too soon for my liking.

Horses for courses.

The Ah only affects battery run time. You'll get the same power output from the tool with any of the 12v batteries.
