read it again; they absolutely do, and they describe why.
You're right. My mistake. I had done Control-F and searched for 5 and five and got nothing, and scrolling down I saw only diagrams for 4-tire rotations and no diagrams for 5-tire rotations. I didn't wade through the text.

Thank you. I've now deleted my post you had quoted, now that it's more than useless.

Jeep Wrangler JL Question on 1st Tire Rotation Snip_TEMP0001
So, I'm about to take my new Jeep in for its first complimentary oil change and tire rotation.

I happened to ask them if they rotate all five tires or just the four on the ground. They replied it's my choice, 4-tire rotation or 5-tire rotation.

Well, I can easily think up why I might want a 5-tire rotation but the fact that they offer a choice instead of a recommendation made me wonder if there are owners who opt for only a 4-tire rotation, and why.

I notice the 2024 Wrangler Owners manual only mentions the 4-tire rotation:

Tire rotation from 2024 wrangler owners manual.jpg

Seems odd to me that they do not discuss a 5-tire rotation.

I read in another thread of someone who did the 4-tire rotation and wanted to change to 5-tire rotation but was told if his four tires had, say, 20,000 miles on them, it was too late to bring in the 5th tire. Too late? Okay, but does that consign the 5th tire to serve only as a temporary spare?

Anyway, I wonder is anyone has wisdom about any of this, 4-tire versus 5-tire rotation, and maybe why the manual would only advise on 4-tire rotation.

Thanks.
Please read page 69 of your tire warranty booklet.

It's been said, but a 5 tire rotation makes a driveway job extremely simple since you only have one wheel off at a time. I don't have to worry about dragging out jack stands and the PITA associated with getting the Jeep on and off of them.

The only issue I see is if someone is running heavy 37s or larger, getting that spare back on the carrier is likely a solid kick to the crotch.

In the garage I use this from Harbor Freight because I’m lazy. On the trail, don’t Jeep alone. You don’t have to bring someone smart, just bring someone who can pick up heavy things.

To my rookie mind the rotation is to make for even wear on the tires you use all the time. The tire on the back is supposed to be a spare, not an everyday tire. putting it into the rotation only complicates things.

by keeping the rotation to the 4 you always use you assure even wear.
On the other end, you paid for all five tires, use all five

That's a great solution. Didn't even cross my mind to use one for a spare, even thought we use a similar device at work to help reduce operator fatigue when loading heavy parts onto a particular milling machine. It definitely would have saved some swear words when trying to get the spare aligned and hung on the back of my Bronco.

Just thinking out lout, as a lazy option, can I only swap the spare with the tire that shows the lowest tread depth, and leave the other 3? All 5 are not new, tread depth are relatively even, ranging from 12-13.
I was planning to do this in between the full rotation. For example, full rotation every 10k miles, and this 1 swap option in between at 5K miles. Any drawbacks?

When I was young and broke I try used tires a couple of time to learn tire are only made to turn one way if you switch them they come apart in about 5000 miles I only do 4 tire rotation to not strain steel belts in tire

5 tire for sure without question. A few reasons. 1. You’re wasting tires if you don’t. When it’s time for new tires are you just gonna buy 4 and have an out of date mismatched tire for a spare? 2. Your tires last longer with 5 tire rotation. In my mind if you’re doing 5 tire rotation you will get 20% longer tread life. 3. Lets say you don’t do 5 tire and your other 4 are near end of life and you get a slash. So your gonna put on a spare tire that probably a quarter inch taller then the others from having full tread? Always 5 tire.

There are directional tires but typically these are not used on a Jeep.

I've always done a 4 tire rotation. Up until now, I've never had a spare that was a matching wheel and tire. Now we have a practically new tire hanging on the back and 4 wore out tire on the rig.
The next set won't be the same tread. Might not even be the same size. So I'll have a spare tire to sell I guess. Same with the spare on my Gladiator, I've already changed tire sizes on it.
For the Gladiator, the spare will probably be put on the Wrangler and I'll find a properly sized used tire for a spare.

I'm just funnin with ya.
In reality, you just don't see directional tires that often anymore. Atleast not unless they are high performance tires of some sort.

Sorry, but that makes no sense in this world. Our tires are not directional. If they were then doing a standard 4-tire rotation would still screw them up. You'd have to do a front to rear rotation (assuming non-staggered tires).
