Real world, 2 v 4 door?

Do you run that with the seats out? Do you find it to be limiting on passenger space and cargo space? If yes then the 4 door is probably for you. No reason not to keep the LJ and also get the 4 door.

I run with the rear seat out 99.9% of the time. Unfortunately the LJ sits perfectly between the two wheel bases, hence the reason why I asked these questions. I've driven an off-roaded a four-door, I've driven a two-door on the highway but I ask because I know a a lot of y'all have lived with both vehicles so had to ask

I much preferred the old M151 over a hummer. Easy to bang out a dent in one of those than the HMMWV

For those wondering, I currently drive a 2006 LJ sport automatic 3.75 lift on 35s. Unfortunately it sits right between the two door and four-door, to an extent is closer to the two-door seeing as their only 5 in different to the rear swing door not including the spare tire.

you have one of the best jeeps ever made and it’s the last of the real Jeeps you’re not gonna do any better than this build it out and go after the trails wish I’d never got rid of mine…

Not perfectly between the two, much closer to a JL than a JLU. The Golden Ratio being a 100" wheelbase puts both the JL and LJ pretty close though.

Based on what I found online, the wheelbase difference between an LJ and JL is less than 5", but the overall length of the JL is actually less than that of the LJ. Wheelbase difference between an LJ and JLU is 15".

Really just not a fan of the two doors. They don't look proportional and look like a hot wheels. I also have three GSDs so trying to pick up the two seniors to put in a two door vehicle would be a pain.

Of course, if you are toting more than one additional than you... no brainer. So you don't like the proportions, okay. Have you driven one?

No, I'd imagine there really isn't any noticeable difference between the two. Even if I didn't have the dogs I wouldn't get one.

I go camping and offroading a lot. I have 2 dogs that are 45 and 65 lbs.

I could not function well in a 2 door. With my wife and 2 dogs, a roofrack, I'm almost at full capacity haha!

I have stood on the hood countless times and have never cracked a hood. I've also stood on hoods full kit holding an M2 or MK19 and have never cracked a hood.

Roger that, Jino. A 2dr is for two. Maybe throw a small dog in the mix. My nest is empty including pets at the moment so...

That’s good Brent; it didn’t happen all the time, but it did happen - one of the reasons it was stenciled onto the hoods of some of them..

We particularly had problems with the Avenger weapon system vehicle hood. Soldiers would incorrectly mount and dismount the platform using the hood - especially bad when a Soldier would hop from the roof down to the hood with an M3P, or with just individual kit.

My wife and I are retired and emptynesting. We LOVE our 2-door. We pulled the rear seat out for more storage. We've taken many road trips in the Jeep (longest so far was 3500 miles round trip) and have had no regrets. But we never traveled with a dog or 3rd passenger. If we did, I would simple install a small Thule cargo box on top for additional storage. This is something we are considering for a NJ-Utah road trip that we are planning for 2024.
