So I was talking to my boyfriend about how I wanna tear out the carpets and spray in some Lizard Skin Sound Deadener & Ceramic Shield. Boyfriend is not convinced the sound deadener will help (I'm pretty sure it will, from what I've seen) and is concerned about a bunch of the wiring harnesses being exposed and being a problem.

So my question is for those who run without carpets and/or have their interiors bedlined, how's it been besides not having to worry about dirty carpets? Are the wiring harnesses an issue? Did you notice an increase in sound when you tore out the carpets? Any other factors about having the carpets out that are a possible con I haven't thought of?

I'd also love to hear especially from people who have bedlined their jeeps interior. Bonus points if you've used lizard skin!

Edit: Lovely if you have armourlite and that's the product for you, but I'm not really asking about armorlite, I'm asking about people who live without carpets/bare/bedlined floors.

I'm sure armorlite is great, but it's not really what I'm asking at the moment, besides, I want something a little more permanent than what armorlite offers. Also, armorlite doesn't answer the question of living with an exposed floor. Thanks though.

I am planning to run armorlite on my JL because there is a ton of wiring under the carpets.

I ran without carpets on my JK and it was awesome, but definitely louder. Not loud enough to bother me, but made it hard if you had to take a phone call and the person on the other line didn’t speak up a bit.

It’s louder without carpets until you get the sound deadening stuff down. Also not really too many extra harnesses exposed either. I guess the underwear harness if you have heated seats is a little more exposed but that’s the only one.

sound deadening+carpet are definitely quieter together. I can’t decide if I will keep the carpet or get armorlite, I’m going to put in the full goosegear platform so armorlite seems a bit of a waste.

I have not looked but I bet there is a vendor out there that offers a rubber type floor covering mat or kit. That, coupled with some sound deadening material would be ideal.
if you are worried about wiring put some split loom around it.

Lizard skin has a spray in form of sound deadener, and I was thinking of some kind of sheathing as well, so I'll look into split loom.

Before installing ArmorLite I sprayed sound deadener on the floor and allowed it to dry/cure/off gas for a few days. Yes it is louder and warmer inside the cabin. Wiring harnesses are mostly under the seats and in places they’re not likely to get damaged.

Good luck.

I don't know what Armorlite is.. but.. Get Armorlite !! LOL

one of the first things I did to my JLU was to remove the carpets and spray Raptor bedliner ( If you are into Do-It-Yourself then Raptor liner is a good budget-friendly option ) ... removing the carpets and just applying bedliner will make the cabin a bit louder .. Raptor liner is easy to apply and long lasting.. and you could easily touch it up with the Raptor liner spray can...

I removed the carpets in my YJ and TJ's over the years. I used black bedliner. It was louder and the black was hot to the touch. I lived on the beach and got sand everywhere so that was my reasoning for tearing out the carpet. Was easy to blow out dog hair too.

There's a multiple harnesses/vent runs under the seat that will be exposed if you do pull it. It won't take much to pull a seat and pull up the carpet and see what you'd be working with though.
