I removed the carpet in my YJ years back, and while it's nice if you need to hose the mud out from wheeling with the top off, it would not be something I would do with a new JL. ArmorLite as menioned, or factory carpet go a long way to making the interior feel finished. Your BF is correct, it will expose wiring harnesses, and increase the noise inside the cabin; bedliner will help with noise but again, at that point, ArmorLite makes more sense for most.

In the end, it's your Jeep. Do what you want, just know that it will be more race car and less passenger car inside

one of the first things I did to my JLU was to remove the carpets and spray Raptor bedliner ( If you are into Do-It-Yourself then Raptor liner is a good budget-friendly option ) ... removing the carpets and just applying bedliner will make the cabin a bit louder .. Raptor liner is easy to apply and long lasting.. and you could easily touch it up with the Raptor liner spray can...
Which is the reason I'm going with Lizard Skin over a regular bed liner, as they have a sound deadening spray on product, as well as a ceramic/heat shield spray on product as well. It isn't technically speaking a bed liner in that it's meant to withst and protect from abuse in the same way as a a line-x or raptor liner, but for the interior of a jeep, that's not as big of a consideration.

Looks like that lizard skin idea might be pretty cool
Please post some pics when you're all done for us :)

Yeah I'm pretty curious about this, as well.

As the father of two girls and a lab-German shepherd mix, plus the wife, I *despise* the factory carpet. It's a magnet for any and every hair that even considers coming within a foot of the Jeep.

I've been keeping my eye on Armorlite, but it's $1K for the kit (not including install) and they've been dragging their feet on the rear cargo area for JLUs.

Like you, I'm more concerned with the noise level, and being in Texas, the heat protection. I don't expect it to be as quiet as my wife's Lexus, but I also don't want to make it worse than it is.

A 2 gallon bucket of each the sound deadener & their ceramic shield is about $500, plus it is really recommended you get their spray kit because of how thick the material is. So about $600-ish for the materials alone, plus whatever you can do for the application of it all. Link to their website below (no I'm not an affiliate, I wish!)

I ran my TJ without carpet, I plan to do the same with my JL, I don’t see how it could be worse unless all the extra wiring is too exposed.

I’ve been running without carpets for 2 years now. I just left it bare with my mopar all weather mats it came with. As far as wiring harnesses there is none to worry about. Only ones you see is on each rear door coming out of the edge molding. They are wrapped very good and my 10 and 13 year old have not damaged them at all getting in and out. They really are out of the way. I love having no carpets. If I get caught in a pop up shower with no doors I just put the top up and pull the drain plugs.

There are a lot more wires. Theplastic trim pieces do a good job of covering most of it up though.

Mine is exactly like @Stuckinthesand took the carpet out in 18 and never looked back. The mopar mats get the job done and easy to clean. Probably louder, but with softop and taking doors off whenever its not wet noise is not my concern.

I'm not a fan of spray on bedliners, which LizardSkin appears to be. The problem, besides the heat and noise, is the ability to make repairs to the subsurface. Bedliner is meant to be permanent, and changing your mind, making changes, or adding something that needs contact to the metal surface is extremely difficult with spray on bedliners. It's nothing like just removing a little paint on a normal panel.

I ordered my 2017 F350 with carpet-delete expecting a bare floor. I was instead surprised when it came with some padded synthetic material that insulated, was quiet, didn't transfer heat, and was easy to clean. It was awesome! I've never heard of Armorlite, but from a quick look at their website, it looks similar with what Ford put on my truck. I would definitely go this way before substituting bedliner for carpet...as long as regular dunkings in water were not planned. Then again, even with spray in bedliners there is still too much inside my Jeep floor that shouldn't get wet.

I agree that the product you DON'T WANT, the same product that has been mentioned in almost every response, isn't for everyone.

I think your biggest issue will be the seat wiring and heat/air ductwork running under the seat. You'll have to remove all that stuff to properly get the floor sprayed.

If I make any changes to mine, that will be the route I take.

I’m interested in how this works out for you, carpets in a Jeep are a why. The wiring is under the seats and either run along the tub, or through the tunnel, I don’t think they will be a problem. My issue is how to rectify the gap between the floor pan and the tunnel, I prefer a seamless look, neat and clean.

I've done the spray on liner and the naked with just Quadratec mats covering the whole thing, let me save you some time and effort - go get Armorlite.

The spray on liner gets hot, sand sticks to it like crazy (which is my issue) and it gets abrasive.
Just mats work, but inevitably sand/dirt/water get in areas where the mats aren't and corrosion starts.

Armorlite corrects both issues.
