Until today, I hadn't seen the stats on the thread above, and I am pretty disappointed. My new 2-door hasn't arrived yet, and I'm now wondering if I should try to cancel the transaction and purchase something else. Even as an old Jeep guy and loyal customer for decades, I don't buy into "it's a Jeep thing" for this issue, especially given the outrageous prices we're paying for these vehicles. If FCA was at least addressing this with a recall or TSB, I'd feel more confident in continuing with my purchase. However, their ongoing lack of support only indicates a glaring absence of customer service and an inability to stand behind their product. I was very much on the fence when I decided to order my JL, and it would have only taken an issue like this to steer clear of FCAs product...wish I had known about it then. Frankly, I don't even care that there is an ongoing corrosion problem, but am far more disappointed in FCA's failure to properly address it. As we all know, there are other options in this market space, and I'd be glad to take my $$$ elsewhere.

@JeepCares, we appreciate your efforts to assist us with this problem, and understand that the lack of support is not your fault. However, we request that you continue advising FCA on our increasing discontent, and the impending loss of customers that is already becoming apparent. I for one, am already planning to abandon my beloved brand, and move on to another manufacturer that actually stands behind its product. So sad it's come to this, but I am clearly not the only one, and am certain that more will follow as this problem persists.
There is a TSB for this issue. Which in all reality makes this WORSE! They know they have this issue and do nothing to rectify it.
Wait till the 392 crew paying 75K+ in a year and half from now start seeing this pop up.

I’ve had many discussions on this thread with certain peeps who claimed this was “only a few” cases...I mentioned then To come check back in a year and see how much this thread has grown (that was last June or July I think)... I wonder where they are now?

anyhow,
Here’s the TSB...which seems to have been updated since I last checked....which again almost makes this comical that they keep updating it and are fully aware and than DIRECT the dealers shops how to fix it????

why aren’t THEY fixing IT!?!? lol unreal

Thanks, Jay...I stand corrected on the TSB and agree with your assessment. However, this is still bad news, especially when owners are expected to pay for the repair after their warranty has run out. If anything, it needs to be a recall, but FCA apparently doesn't care enough to do that. Shameful IMHO.

Just went to my local dealership scott robinson jeep in torrence.

They are literally the worse and seem to make sure they do all they can to make the customer not want to come back to them for service.

I had a scheduled appointment with them , showed up 5 minute early, waited about 15 minutes to get help (no biggie), then when I asked about the appointment was told they cant help.

the three things I had set were an evaluation for the paint (hood and 2 doors), a seatbelt recall and a "jeep cares" oil change and tire rotation.

For the seatbelt / oil change I was told would take 5-6 hours, no loaners and no uber home, and for the paint was told they wont even take pictures because they don't have paint/ body shop, That I should just leave and go to another dealer to have everything don't at another dealer.

What a bunch of f-ing clowns.

I left and now have to find another dealer with " a body shop"

Any ideas for one in Los angles? @JeepCares

Hey, Arkion. Feel free to send us a private message with more details and we can dig into your concerns further.

Jeep Cares

Hi, Redneck_Jedi. To start, I am from Jeep and work on behalf of the company to help address customer concerns. That said, although the Corrosion Limited Warranty is outlined in your Warranty Manual, I can say this:

All concerns are different and therefore, I cannot speculate as to whether or not each customers concerns mentioned here will fall under the outlined warranties. I cannot see your concerns nor would I be in the best position to diagnose them, as only the dealership technicians can do that. With this in mind, if you anyone has any questions about the warranty associated to their vehicle, you can call 1-800-992-1997 anytime. Specialists are available 24 hours a day.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance here.

Kate @JeepCares ,

Thank you for replying. Would you be willing to escalate this thread to someone who can address the ongoing corrosion issue as a whole (and not each individual case)? This is a widespread, well known issue, and as such, Jeep's official stance on the subject should also be well known.

I think most of us who have had corrosion repairs done (some multiple times), just want to know if Jeep will stand behind their product and the repairs done at their dealerships. If so, in what form will that support be?

Based on the responses on this forum it appears the problem starts after the first year when it affects about 2/3rds of those polled. This is a pretty ugly statistic if it proves correct. I’m surprised there has not been a class action lawsuit....though warranty claims are typically subject to arbitration. My Jeep just turned a year old. I’m crossing my fingers but realize this will likely occur.

There is a TSB for this issue. Which in all reality makes this WORSE! They know they have this issue and do nothing to rectify it.
That's because that's how TSBs work, they are nothing more than an "If a customer complains about this, do that" document.

They will not fix it proactively nor does it mean they will necessarily change manufacturing processes to prevent it.

The corrosion warranty would not apply because there must be an actual hole in the panel:
WHAT'S COVERED:
This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole occurs because of something other than corrosion, this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered.

Jeep has owned the market for so long I doubt they would even notice it had occured.

That’s why they don’t bother to improve (though if you look at the PDF above it seems every FCA vehicle suffers from this issue including Challengers.)

As far as warranty coverage, my warranty guide (2020) says 3 yr, UNLIMITED miles for all panels and 5 yr, UNLIMITED miles for outer panels. It does specify that it is anti-corrosion perforation warranty.

Correct, and all of these have been bubbling; none are perforation and it's virtually impossible for perforation to actually occur (ex-Wisconsinite here, so I'm very familiar with rust.)

I think the main thing is not that Jeep doesn't care, its that Jeep / Ram whatever in the US is really bad at the paint process when it comes to aluminum. And they aren't willing to take the financial hit to fix it. I do think if Bronco takes a big bite out of wrangler sales (and Bronco sport takes a bite out of Compass/Cherokee) they will notice it. the issue will be will they fix those of us who are already affected, or just improve the process going forward. I am losing resale value so fast on mine the way the corrosion is spreading I need to trade it now, so I am ordering a Bronco.

i think a lot of us, myself included, would really consider the bronco especially once we start having issues like this with our jeeps. there are however a ton of very similar documented cases on various ford forums that discuss these same aluminum paint bubbling corrosion issues on fords. so i wouldn't jump ship and hold your breath thinking fca is the only one who cant figure out aluminum. im curious to see how the 2021 broncos look after 2-3 years

I agree, my getting a Bronco is really more about trying to preserve some of my investment. if I hold the Wrangler any longer its just going to get worse, and I wouldn't buy a new Wrangler until I know they have figured it out. I am hoping that Ford has it figured out for the Bronco, as they have more extensive experience (including bad experiences) with aluminum panels on vehicles. I at least want to enjoy and be happy with the vehicle I am paying monthly on :)
