I have every intention to off road, just life gets in the way. Granted, I also purchased the Jeep due to living FL and flooding, hurricanes, etc. When I had my Camaro, I got stuck trying to find my way around issues. Now, I can just go through or over them without an issue. I personally don't see an issue with the way the Wrangler drives down the road. Seems fine to me. I will say, after getting to drive it for a while, I hate rack and pinion steering now. The doors and top are off as often as FL weather will allow. Jeep does have some quality issues but it seems most are that way now. As for pricing, what vehicle isnt expensive? Damn Tahoes start out now almost $60K. To each their own as long as you are enjoying

I don't care if anyone wheels their Jeep or not, I don't really care what anyone does with anything they own.

But I will agree that it is a little annoying to hear someone complain to me about their vehicle when they very obviously bought the wrong vehicle for what they needed. Don't complain to me that the steering wonders or it rides like shit when you only bought your Jeep because you thought it looks cute or fun - you bought a vehicle based on appearance alone with complete disregard for what it actually is, you can deal with that in silence and spare me your whining.

This is especially prevalent on the 4XE-specific Jeep forums, a LOT of people buy them because they were expecting a Jeep Prius and complain when they find out that it absolutely isn't that.. "Ugh, I only get 20mpg and the battery is dead after only like 15 miles!" No shit, you bought a 3 ton tank with 375 horsepower that's shaped like a brick. "But I was promised 49 MPGe!"

Say you dont have money to mod the jeep to be able to off road then say you dont need to spend money to be able to off road? Which is it homie.

I guess it depends on how far off the beaten path you are going. The JL is more than capable of off-roading as is. Even a stock sport is more capable than a TJ or CJ, and those have been running the usual trails for decades. That said, the ride would be more comfortable and the survival rate of the vehicle would be better if some modifications are made. I would like to eventually put on a 2" or 2.5" lift and 35" tires, as well as get rid of the cheap plastic bumpers that don't actually protect anything. A winch is always useful, and I would not venture out without a reasonable amount of tools, communication and recovery gear. All of these take money.

Yea the only real thing on your list that is reasonable to feel that you NEED before taking the Jeep out is the recovery stuff, and communication gear. Artificially handicapping yourself from doing something you claim to want to do is wild to me. You even said the JL is the most capable vehicle stock to get out there with so why not just go do it? Why put all these needless roadblocks in your way, especially in California where there are some of the best and most scenic trails, both hard core and easy, in the country.

Hi, I'm Dusty. And I am a condescending jerk. Just wanted to get that out of the way before I continue. This post is my opinion, not a statement of fact. And I know that a lot of people are going to disagree with me. I'm okay with that.

If you bought a Wrangler and you do not go off road, you bought the wrong vehicle. There are so many posts here, with owners complaining about things that are just inherent to how a Wrangler is constructed. "My Jeep rides worse than ____, my gas mileage is bad after lift and tires (duh), it's noisy inside, my steering is funny, etc, etc..."

Not all of these posts are uncalled for, but some of the people have a rather unreasonable expectation. And some wish for Jeep to change the Wrangler to be more in line to what they are expecting. That's where I don't agree with folks. Several times people have expressed the wish for the Wrangler to have IFS, fixed windshields, even a fixed top. If that's what you want, those vehicles already exist. There are other options from most manufacturers that fit those categories. But there is only one vehicle like the Wrangler. The "quirks and features" to quote Doug Demuro from YouTube are what makes the Wrangler unique and desirable. It's the only SUV still available with a solid axle. It's the only one that has a folding windshield. One of only 2 that has a removable top. The body on frame construction makes it heavy, but rugged. The recirculating ball steering has a heavy feel and combined with the sfa can have rough handling and steering problems compared to IFS. But it's much stronger and easier to modify for improved performance off road. The problems that most people complain about, are part and parcel with the attributes that make the Wrangler such a desirable vehicle to people who want to use their Jeep off road on the trails. But it makes it a bad choice for a daily commute vehicle if you don't intend to ever go wheeling. Especially if you have modified it for larger tires to look cool, but did not consider how that would impact the daily drive.

Rant over. Again, this is just words from a judgmental prick. Feel free to completely ignore me. But maybe, just maybe after reading this you will think about what I wrote and if there is a kernel of truth to it.
