100 miles on the odometer! Man, I didn't get mine off road that fast... it was like 600 miles just to get back to Dallas from Gupton. That's awesome!
Bought her on a Thursday and had her out at the local off road park that weekend which was the last one for the year lol. I stop the Jeep in the same spot on one of the trails every time I do something major to her

On my 23 mile commute each morning and afternoon I pass more Wranglers than I can count. Based on their appearance, mostly tire choice, I'm going to guess that only a couple of them are driving off road. Jeep must be marketing it all wrong...
I bought mine with the plan to pass it on to my daughter as it seems perfect for a female.

I picked mine up on a Saturday in January, but it was nice enough in Dallas to pop the freedom panels and take the doors off! Dropped about 30 degrees that evening and I had to fly out for work on Monday, so I had to put it all back together. I travel for work way too much...

Yea the only real thing on your list that is reasonable to feel that you NEED before taking the Jeep out is the recovery stuff, and communication gear. Artificially handicapping yourself from doing something you claim to want to do is wild to me. You even said the JL is the most capable vehicle stock to get out there with so why not just go do it? Why put all these needless roadblocks in your way, especially in California where there are some of the best and most scenic trails, both hard core and easy, in the country.
Where in my original post did I say that? I must've missed it. The only thing I mentioned is that there comes a point where modifications venture from necessity to vanity. I also said there is nothing wrong with that, but there is hypocrisy in criticizing the vanity of others and called them 'peacocks'. I'm not new to Jeeps or off-roading. I wouldn't call a desire for preparedness and self-sufficiency a bad thing. More people would benefit from artificial handicaps to avoid reckless behavior. I would like to skydive too, doesn't mean I wouldn't give myself the best chance of survival before I do it.

My first Jeep vehicle was a 1987 Comanche SporTruck. Charcoal metallic clear coat. Short box, 4 wheel drive, 4.0, T5, light bar, running boards, you name it, it had it. I used it as a farm truck as my 3/4 ton Chevy had pooped out on me, getting expensive to maintain. I hauled anhydrous tanks into the fields with that Jeep, I used it to light up the night when the combine broke down, I hauled wagons full of seed corn into the fields, it was my do everything truck - even a nice truck for a date.
Then got married again, traded it for a Cherokee. Loved it - towed a small camper with it and abused the crap out of that little 4.0 with automatic. Great iowa winter truck. Then we moved to other vehicles for a while - and we decided to go back to Jeep - started out with Grand Cherokee ZJ, then multiple WJs over the years, and then WK, WK2 and then......... Gladiator for me and my wife traded her like new 2021 Grand Cherokee for a 2023 Wrangler - because for years she has wanted a purple Jeep. So I found her a purple Jeep. She loves it.
Will she ever remove the roof or doors or take it off road? Not unless a deer or black ice forcer her into it................... still, it's a great vehicle for her because it's very very capable in our winters. Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators are perfect winter vehicles. Sure, Grand Cherokee is better - extremely safe and beats the heck out of competition in head-to-head snow and winter performance and show by multiple magazines, but still....................... even though she originally came from the world of Camaros, she's preferring taller vehicles so she can see around things and go over things. A camaro doesn't cut it in 17" of snow and ice.
A Jeep will get you through even if the roads aren't yet plowed.
And speaking of plowing, the Gladiator (and likely JLU even though I've not tried for fear of my wife killing me) they make great snow plow vehicles. I'd never own anything but a Jeep for snow plowing our own small acreage.
As for winter - I have no fear. I can even help others out if needed, and have, by winching a guy out of a snowy/icy ditch a couple of winters ago. It was so slick I was afraid my JT was going to slide off the edge of the road, but I set the brakes and winched the guy out - a big truck transporting scrap iron pulled up being me and said if I slipped, we'd chain my Jeep to his truck.

Off roading, no, I don't (where do you go but cow pastures and hog lots around here HA), but for our winters, I'll have nothing else.

This sentiment is ignorant. I don't take my Jeep off-road. I intend to one day, but I don't have the funds to buy a $40,000 vehicle, then turn around and add another $10,000 in aftermarket parts to ensure that it'll survive the journey with some modicum of comfort. One day I'll reach that magical point, and hopefully I'll have the time to take a week to drive somewhere to play in some rocks.
I would like to eventually put on a 2" or 2.5" lift and 35" tires, as well as get rid of the cheap plastic bumpers that don't actually protect anything. A winch is always useful, and I would not venture out without a reasonable amount of tools, communication and recovery gear. All of these take money.

Across 2 posts you say you need to spend a ton of money to go off roading, and claim going out off roading is something you would like to do.

You live in one of the better states to go do it in, yet instead of just getting out there you feel you need to spend money first which is just objectively false.

Make some Jeep friends and go hit some trails, in numbers you dont even need to buy anything other than gas and maybe a day pass to the park if you are going to one.

There is a difference in having caution in what you are going to do off the beaten path and another to just chicken little yourself thinking you need a lift/35s/GMRS/Tool Box etc to get out there.

People that buy a Wrangler and then complain how it drives or complain about the mpg are morons.

That said, not everyone that owns a Wrangler needs to off-road it. If the only people that bought them were people that drive them on the dirt, the Jeep brand would have been pulled years ago from lack of sales. The reason we will have the option to buy a 2025 Wrangler is because of the 95% of mall crawler sales in 2024.

Hi, I'm Dusty. (Blah, Judgemental, blah, blah)

If you bought a Wrangler and you do not go off road, you bought the wrong vehicle. There are so many posts here, with owners complaining about things that are just inherent to how a Wrangler is constructed. "My Jeep rides worse than ____, my gas mileage is bad after lift and tires (duh), it's noisy inside, my steering is funny, etc, etc..."

"It's like déjà vu all over again." Yogi Bera

On a side note, yesterday I gave a ride to an 82 year old, 4'9 teacher friend. She LOVED the Wrangler.

Earlier this morning I saw an old lady I mean had to have been at least 70 hair flowing in the breeze driving her JK with the doors and top off. She had a big old smile on her face look like she was having a blast.

I upgraded damn near everything on mine right away, metalcloak lift and wheels and 37's and bumpers and winch and rock sliders all before 500 miles, I barely even got to see what my Jeep looked like from the factory

One of the fun things about Jeeps is this kinda thing. Im doing EVERYTHING in my power to not lift mine but I think itll have to happen eventually. So far my 2 door Rubicon on 35s has gotten me everywhere Ive asked it and I like the current height it sits so skid plates are next and then maybe a small 1.5" lift to accommodate extra articulation from better control arms.

I dunno why anyone wouldn't expect some people to whine about their Jeeps, it's the "normal" thing to do for just about anything these days.

I won't elaborate to avoid the "politics" hammer 😏
