Xtreme Recon Lite - 2 Door Edition

I was fortunate enough to stumble across a complete takeoff suspension (with 11 whole miles on it) from a new 4-door XR, at a very reasonable price.

My Jeep is a 2021 Rubicon, on 35's (315/70/17 KO2's). I had already added the XR fender flares.

Installed XR shocks, springs, LCA's, sway bar links and MetalCloak bump stops in the front.

Here's a before and after:

I measured from the ground to the bottom of the fender flares

Front Lift: 1 7/8 inches
Rear Lift: 2 inches

So far I'm very happy, my wanna be 2-door XR drives like stock. I wasn't looking for a huge lift, just wanted to compensate for the 35's.

Once I tightened down that one rear LCA bolt that I missed (yikes!), it really does drive like stock.

Tracks down the road like normal...well, JL normal anyway. I was a curious to see if it was too stiff since these springs/shocks are for a 4-door but it rides just fine.

What do you now measure from the bottom of each fender?

It does look like just the right amount of lift for the two door.

Front: 41 3/4"

Interesting. I have the 2.5" game changer from MetalCloak and am standing at:

Front: 41 1/2"
Rear: 41 3/4"

I do have the heavy winch and plate up front though. Same tires.

The spot where I took the pics is a little sloped, so the difference before and after is accurate but the absolute number is probably a little high. And no winch yet for us.

I've got a steel bumper, hard top JLR and have been debating going a similar route using the parts from a JLUR with steel bumper, hard top and tow for a slight lift. So hard to find JLRs that have gone this route. Lots of Sports with Rubicon suspension. So, if you got 2" from the XR, the "heaviest" JLUR springs may put me at that 1-1.5" lift that I want to be at?. What I can't seem to find good info on is if the XR front track bar and sway bar links are any different than the standard Rubicon pieces. All I can find is that Jeep added a relocation bracket for the rear track bar.

Plan on doing the exact same thing to my 2 door Willys off a 4 door XR Rubi with hard top and steel bumpers. When I first got my Willys my only intention was swapping out to larger tires, but once I replaced the front bumper with a steel one plus a winch, and a Barricade roof rack that weighs 150 lbs, that plan went to waste.

I've got a great friend who plans on immediately replacing his suspension and is willing to give me his take-offs. He's going to immediately put 37's on his and he's donating his suspension to encourage me to go to 35's on my 2 door so we can off-road together. For sure I need the shocks and springs and will purchase the Mopar LCA.

Will I need 2" bump stops? Should I also replace the track bars and the sway links? Gotta say 35's on a 2 door looks perfect.

The control arms on the JLUR XR are the same part number as my JLR, so I did not replace them. That might be different on the Willys?

You'll need the sway bar links for sure, the track bar was the same part number as my stock JLR as well.

I started with a 1" bump stop, we'll see if I get any rubbing.

Why bumpstops? Does the XR come with bumpstop? I know practically nothing about it.
My greatest joy of 4 door Rubicon springs on my 2 door is lift without increasing bump as long as the shocks are ok.

Yes, the XR comes with stand alone taller bump stops in the rear and uses the integrated ones from the diesel engined Jeeps in the front. Since I went from stock 33's to 35's, I decided a 1" bump (35" tire is one inch taller from the axle centerline) to compensate.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
