I looked and couldn't find a thread on this. If there is already one out there I apologize. Trying to find out if anyone has relocated their winch solenoid. I want to move it for a cleaner look. The engine bay is pretty tight. I wondered where guys are putting them, or ideas on where to relocate it. Thanks, awesome site!

I am also interested in relocating the solenoid. They only spot that I have been able to find in the engine bay (of a 2.0) is on top of the fuse box. I'm a little hesitant to use that spot though... something about the heavy gauge wire being held down with plastic. Maybe it would be OK if the right bracket was fabricated.

Any idea the overall size of the Warn zeon solenoid after it is relocated? I don't have a winch yet, just trying to plan everything out.

Interested to hear other thoughts or solutions.

There is not a lot of room to mount the solenoid in the engine bay. Maybe up by the firewall on the drivers side but you will need to make a bracket for it someway. I would just leave it on the winch in my opinion.

I want to do this also, but I don’t have my JLUR yet. On my WK I sandwiched the controller box between the grill and radiator, cutting an arm-sized access port where the grill attached to the top of the radiator. Could something like this be done in the JL?

I am also extremely Interested. I have the Roam slimline front bumper that’s already a problem for the control box. I have it secured with high powered magnets at the moment. I just ordered a light bar that I just know is gonna get in the way of the the control box’s location even further. Any hope?

I just took delivery Saturday, so haven’t had a huge amount of time to investigate. Behind the grill doesn’t seem to have a lot of room, so that’s probably a no go. There might be room for a control box on the driver’s side firewall. Will have to build bracketry to hold the box above what’s currently there. I’ll probably build a cardboard box with the same measurements as my control box and play around a bit.

If I’m able to solve the problem, it may be specific to the 3.6 engine.

Bump. Anyone figured out a way to remote the box?

On my Sport S I installed a RockHard mid width and I installed the solenoid upside-down on the underside of the winch plate. I also mounted a remote receiver under there with it. I installed a blade switch under the hood on top of the battery. Not worrying about water crossings much here in AZ, if I did find a crossing the water would drain out I hope.

I thought of a new location for BSG/eTorque equipped Jeeps: the ESS battery location should be empty, and somewhat waterproof. I haven't personally confirmed that this will work and haven't seen any pictures, but I think it's worth exploring.

Wondering if anyone had a chance to check this out as a mounting location? Getting ready to do a Stealth mount in the footsteps of @Mx5red . Wondering if anyone has located it different than on the frame rail. Just worried about water. . . .

Still haven't seen any pictures or checked it out myself, but I did run across the ESS battery removal instructions: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/attachments/supplemental-battery-removal-pdf.318321/

Also have these photos saved from someone on the forum:

Hey @AnnDee4444, thanks for the pics. I ended up doing a stealth install with it mounted to the frame rail…. At least for the time being. This far has worked well.

Were you able to use the original cables this way?

I mounted mine to the frame rail

I used a simple hose clamp. It's pictured below for example but I changed the position of the clamp before installing
