I came from bigger SUVs and I won't lie, it took me about a year or so to adapt to the 2 door (in terms of trunk space). It really can be a drag if you LET IT BE. Just get yourself a nice roof rack and forget about it. Hitch mounted baskets work too, but they're a bit of a pain and are useless for offroading.

I had a 2018JL 2 door soft top. It got totaled in an accident and I got a 4 door JL replacement by insurance that I drove for about 3 months. I was gonna get my replacement Jeep and wife and I were on the buying process for a 4 door. At the dealer, literally at the last minute I looked at my wife and she looked at me and I could tell her face said "this isn't the same thing though...." dropped the deal right there and we were out the dealer an hour later with a 2 door JL. This time hardtop though!!!.

You can work around the space issue you really can. And then you realize you don't need a giant SUV. It feels very good, like a weight out of your shoulders not needing such a big vehicle honestly.
That's great to hear! And honestly, we're in a city where narrow parking is a pretty frequent part of life. The shorter wheel base seems beneficial on crowded highways and tight parking lots. Plus a little extra space in the garage never hurt anyone.

I sold this for my incoming Rubicon.
Very nice on road..did not seem all that happy pushing if off road.
I am ready for more ground clearance (with 37s) and SFA.

Has anyone tried this as on option instead of a roof rack on a 2 door?

A willys stock is gonna be more capable than a 4runner TRD off-road or Pro. A willys has a rear LSD that's quite capable on small 32 tires. The 4runner needs the locker for the lack of articulation, which the Willys doesn't have an issue with.

Apples and oranges anyway. The Jeep is more capable than the 4runner, specially a 2 door. Toyota only makes one vehicle that's comparable to a Wrangler and they don't sell it in the U.S.

For the type of off-roading you are doing a sport would do. Get yourself a Willys and you'll be all set.
It's funny how 32s are considered small these days. 32s and 33s use to be considered massive back in the day. Even though people's opinions and technology has changed and 35s are the new 32s the reality is 32s are an extremely capable off road size tire. Always was always will be. There's always a give and take. Sure bigger tires are better for ground clearance and approach and departure angles for more extreme scenarios but they are also much harder on the vehicle and aren't as good in tight spaces.

I honestly think 32s are a great size all around. Good for Off-roading but also good for on road travel and much better for fuel economy especially if your more into traveling cross country and Overlanding versus extreme rock crawling.

Different tools for different jobs basically. The Willys is a great package and plenty capable. I just wish for the sport version it came standard with AC, power windows and locks for the money they want. A rear locker option would be nice as well. I'd be all in.

Skipping pages 3 and 4 because the “Rubicons are $10k more” lie bothers me so much. Can we just put it to rest with some simple math?

$39,765 - $36,365 = $3,400
(Rubicon base price minus Willys base price, 2-door)

This is the most applicable comparison based on standard features.

Comparing a Sport (at $29,070 base price) to a Rubicon isn’t really a meaningful comparison.

And both the Willys Sport and the Sport S are a lot less than $10k away from a Rubicon. Stop trying to make yourselves feel better about not getting a Rubicon, they aren’t as expensive as you think!

I bought my sport S for 31.5k (MSRP 39k). I could not find a Rubicon for less than about 43k. This was back in 2019. I wouldve gladly pay 33 to 35k for a rubi.

You can order a base Rubicon with no extra options. Dealers don’t want to stock them, but you can get one.

Is crazy world these days, bought my unlimited rubicon summer 2020 for 46k. It was just sunning itself on the lot though so not much negotiating room. Didn't know much about ordering before finding these forums.

The regular Willys (Sport S) does. Or you can add AC and half doors on the Willys Sport, which upgrades all the doors to power windows and locks. I personally think that's $2300 - 2500 well spent on the doors, and the half doors are a bonus.

As much as it would be nice for it all to be standard, I think others would miss the simplicity.

JLU Willys Sport vs JLU Rubi is a decent price difference. I like the idea of a Rubicon but simply not in the budget for some of us.

Oh for sure and I definitely understand, I just see some crazy statements sometimes. On these very forums I’ve seen people claim that Rubicons cost $15,000 more than Sports. And while that can be true, it certainly doesn’t have to be.

I understand but the difference between the Willys Sport and the regular Willys is the power windows, locks, AC , LED headlights ect.. My point is there shouldn't be 2 Willys. All that stuff should come standard for the price of the Willys Sport. All that stuff comes standard on the Base Bronco for $31k. But Jeep makes you pay thousands more. If you don't want it then you should be able to delete it and subtract from the price then. That's what mean.
