Here are my reasons, in no particular order:
  • Tax credit. - I leased mine and got to apply the tax credit as cap reduction. I'm paying less than $300/mo which is way less than what my monthly would've been for finance. I'm probably going to end up purchasing at the end, so this may not end up being too much of a benefit.
  • Torque - Compared to the standard 6-cyl, all of my friends who own Wranglers agree that there's a noticeable increase in torque.
  • MPG - I do most of my driving locally during the week with longer drives on weekends. With a Level 2 charger, I rarely use gas on weekdays. My overall MPG in the past year is over 40 MPG.
  • Electric Motor - I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy driving in electric mode, especially on trails. It's not ton of power, but it's responsive and enough to get me where I need to most of the time. I like it so much, I'd seriously consider getting the all-electric Wrangler whenever Jeep releases it.
  • Parking - The least expected benefit has to be parking. Some of the best parking in CA are reserved for handicapped and EVs. I've been able to park right in front of stores, malls, Disneyland, often with free charging!
  • Cool factor - My wife and I pulled into valet parking at a fancy restaurant. At the end of the night, the valet brought out my 4xe and told me it was the favorite car he drove that night. And this was a restaurant with Ferraris and Bentleys parked up front.
But I'm sure you'll find your own reasons once you've owned it for a while.
Perfect list! Well done!

Torque and HP #1. Second, much of our local driving is within that 20-25 mile range. I've got over 400 miles since last fill up, and as long as I keep it charged overnight it'll keep going for those local electric only trips.
Keep in mind that you're never at 0 battery...it's ALWAYS a hybrid and will always be using both gas and battery. Even in e-save, it will still kick in battery power if it needs an extra boost.
We love ours!

I live on the outskirts of a large metro area and often attend a variety of events or go downtown. One advantage that I rarely see mentioned is that you can save your electric and use it while sitting in back ups on the freeways or in parking garages or to get in and out of events. That saves gas to use when it is most efficient such as when the freeways are moving freely. This maximizes the efficiency of both gas and electric for my use.
My work commute is 21 miles each way and I can plug-in at work for free and charge nightly at home for less than half what it would cost me to use gas. I usually see between 20 to 22 mpg on gas alone but average 40-50 computer calculated combined mpg a tank. I would say I fall into what would be considered an ideal use case for it. I love mine and would highly recommend it to anyone that it fits their driving habits
I 100% agree. I switch in and out of E-Save and Hybrid modes all the time. E-Save for high speed freeway driving and Hybrid/Electric for stop & go and city driving. If the efficiency gauge is accurate, I’m pretty sure I’m getting 25+ mpg even on the freeway.

I didn't get one because I bought my JLR for off road; however, if I bought it for a daily driver (which I do daily drive it, that's just not the purpose of buying it), my work is within a few miles, so is shopping and most of my daily chores. So, for me, I could use it almost every day without "liquid" fuel, but the point of getting it is to wheel it, and for that I need more than 25 mile range. I opted for the easy and very reliable 3.6L.
That makes no sense. It's the BEST rock crawler in the herd. All that torque at low RPM. I've had mine all over Moab, Colorado mountains, Nevada desert, New Mexico, etc.... Been wheeling for 40 years and that's exactly why I bought the 4xe. I wish it was a 2-door, but that's just a minor inconvenience. I bought it for all the wrong reasons (470 ft-lbs and 375hp) and never looked back.

I get free charging at work, and a 10 mile commute each way.

The performance is amazing compared to all other models (except the V8).

So, no brainer, especially given the high gas prices.

If you're buying for mpg, there's a Prius forum around here somewhere....
Perhaps...

But for anyone buying a (insert the words "Jeep Wrangler" here because that's clearly what 99.99 percent of the folks reading and posting on this thread are referring to) for mpg, than stick around...

If Jeep made a 2 door 4xE I would be very interested. Especially since I can charge at work for free. My commute is about 37 miles each way, so I would still probably need gas though. I almost...almost....considered going 4 doors for the 4xE. Almost.

The 4xe is awesome!
  • Power - coming from a mustang gt I still enjoy the 4xe power
  • handling - I guess with the battery mounted low the Jeep is surprisingly planted around corners
  • amenities- interior is way nicer then I expected and the alpine system with the bigger screen is great and included
  • Tax incentive - cheap lease
  • Mpg - for me I can commute without gas so it works but regardless I would get it for the power and still good mpg in hybrid mode.
  • price - I originally wanted a Willy’s and buying out my lease vs new Willy’s with the same features would be thousands less
  • But the best is surprising the crap out of passengers and cars at stop lights when dropping into 4A and traction off!

Not a big fan of electric vehicles.............Not as eco-friendly as I once thought.

Careless Lithium Mining
Excess Water consumption to produce lithium batteries
Laws governing owner maintenance are lacking
Lithium battery fire hazzard. We still do not have a way to put these fires out quickly and safely.

Check out Morris, IL -too many discarded Lithium batteries are catching fire in warehouses, at sea, and during transportation.

I was all about the Wrangler 4XE. I've always wanted a Jeep but I've wanted a lot of things and haven't acted on many. On paper the Wrangler 4XE is PERFECT for me as a second, around town vehicle. The gas going stale would have been my biggest issue ... if it wasn't for the serious and yet to be solved problems they've been having with them. The first is the random and sudden total shutdowns at highway speeds. The second is F.O.R.M. It's called "Fuel Oil Refresh Mode." This is when the Jeep forces the gas engine continuously on because it somehow knows (I'm not sure if it's sensors, calculations or both) too much fuel is getting into the oil. It does it for fuel too if you go too long without adding any. This is an issue with all hybrid engines that can't reach a hot enough oil temperature to burn off the fuel but it's affecting the Jeeps a whole lot more. Some cold climate owners have been stuck in FORM for several WEEKS in a row and never can satisfy the computers enough to get out of it. Of course they're getting ZERO electric miles while this is happening. They've found some work-arounds but they're not great (change the oil very often or lie to the computer telling it you did just change the oil). Either of those two "fixes," then only gets them a week or so of normal operation before the dreaded FORM returns! There are other issues as well but those are the two biggies.
