Can this switch be repurposed for exterior lighting? Reverse lights, or rock lights?

It's a rheostat intended for very low draw interior LED lighting, so perhaps not.

Haha! That's why it's an adjustable knob. Wives and others you care about (insecure girlfriends, mouthy teens, drunk buddy being stupid, etc.) get the low setting, just enough to clear them from the Jeep.
Cheating wives, soon-to-be exes, drunk buddy that pukes in your Jeep and anyone (regardless of status) who says, "I like angry grilles on a Jeep" get the full power, send em to the moon setting.. LMFAO!

It actually has one other use, which took me WEEKS to figure out.

If you scroll it all the way up, there is a soft click at maximum. IF you roll it up past this click, and IF you're using Android Auto*, then it will FORCE Android Auto to remain in daytime mode, overriding the automatic flip between day/night modes. This will force, for instance, your maps to have a white background, even in the dead of night.

If you roll it *just* down past the click, you'll have full brightness footwells and interior lighting AND the automatic function on your Android Auto will work properly.


*It might also do this on Apple CarPlay, but I'm not a sheep, so I only know Android.

I installed this lanyard in the sidecar. My passengers are advised, truthfully, that pulling it will release the seat. They tend to be on their best behavior after hearing that...which is important, actually. A fidgety sidecar passenger has the potential to really upset the physics of the rig when moving. The lanyard reminds all & sundry to be seated and to be still.

This can serve as a reminder for owners to read the manual. The pdf version is searchable.

The owner's manual is not clear on this and ambiguous. Even after reading the manual - it is nearly impossible to notice what the switch does - even IF you know what to look for.

I had to be in total darkness - and look at the door handles while rotating the switch to even notice a difference...

The left dial is for interior ambient lightning in various useless places around the vehicle on certain models. For this reason and so Stellantis can cut more costs and charge us more, it has been removed from the same models for the 2024 model year. I’m sure they will bring it back in a couple of years after they figure out what add-on package to create and how to charge more for it.

There's a light in the door? I've had my JLUR 5 years and never noticed it. LOL. I'm starting to think my wife may be right about me; I don't notice anything she does around the house.

Not all jeeps actually use this switch. After originally posting this I tried to see if it did anything and it literally controls none of these items. I have a JL Sport S (so yes base model) and it does absolutely nothing!
