A bit broken-hearted at the moment. Got my security deck in and started the installation. It is NOT fitting around the sub-woofer at all (the sub-woofer in my Sahara sticks out too far). On top of that, it doesn't even open up for the sub-woofer, so even if the plating was bent around to accommodate the sub, the plate would be flat against the sub. Last I checked, that's not healthy for a sub at all.

My only option now is to return it (yuk) or cut a hole to accommodate the sub. Which I will likely end up doing. But I consider that...
(are you waiting for it?)
(still here?)
sub-optimal :cwl:

(I really am unhappy though, and I'm waiting for the Tuffy people to respond - left them a nice email asking "What next?")

Unfortunately, it says this on the "fit" tab on their product page:
  • Jeep Wrangler JL 2018 – Current, 4-Door models with no Rear Alpine Speaker(with or without OEM hard or soft top).
Unless they have 2 versions? https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-564-tuffy-jl-security-deck-enclosure.aspx

Quadratec has this on their site: "This item is compatible with factory sub woofer, and works with hardtops or soft tops installed."

Is there a sub woofer that is smaller in the same location for the non-upgraded alpine system? Either way, if you have alpine sub, tuffy says no.

Do the Rubi and Sahara have the sub in the same spot? They confirmed that the deck would fit with the sub on their Facebook page, so I'm wondering if they tested on multiple trim levels, or just on one.

The JK version was universal. The panel on the subwoofer side should be modular and a few screws were needed to screw in the extra panel. See if there’s any screws. The sub side pane should b 2 pieces

Ooh... missed that part.

Well then, the problems are "as expected," I suppose.

To Tuffy's credit, they responded quickly and I'm in email conversation with them.

I think the real problem here is that this sound upgrade is (I believe) standard with the 8.4" infotainment upgrade, which is pretty common on Saharas and Rubis. That can be a real sale-limiter if it's not addressed. :(

Edit: Tuffy was great about responding and offered to RMA the product, but I declined. I need the security enclosure ASAP, so I will be undertaking a small task of cutting a hole to accommodate the sub. The Tuffy rep agreed with me that they need to offer a second variant soon to support the sub.

Ultimately cutting the hole is the great option...it will allow the sub to resonate the way it should

There should be a nice gap between the Tuffy and the seatback. I’m thinking that may be a good stow
Just installed mine.
There is a triangle space between the enclosure and the rear of the seat.

Hi All,

Anyone have this already for the JL? If so, have you done the recline mod, and does it fit with it? I wanted to order but heard it may not fit with the recline kit. I gave a call to Tuffy and the rep checked and mentioned the engineers did not factor that possibility. Hope someone does have it and confirm it works... Just got my first Jeep and looking forward to add this as it appears to be quite useful. :)

Thanks in advance!
I have not done the recline mod.
This only about 1" between the seat back and the top of the enclosure.

That may be where I stow my side windows. The rear window can be left behind or rolled horizontally. Walmart felt blankets will protect them.

Overall the security deck is a very good product and will do what I need it to very well.
Install is super simple and took 20 minutes.
So far for me the only downside is that it won't fit the hardtop freedom panels inside without the front panel removed.
Not really an issue. I will probably just leave the front panel out and put it back in when I take the top off.

Please let us know how it goes - mine is due in tomorrow and I'd rather modify than return and wait, but I'm a disaster when it comes to cleanly modding things :)

I checked the description on the Sahara/Rubi stock 7" system, vs the Alpine system. Standard is listed as 8 speaker, and Alpine is listed as 9 speakers:

Standard Features:

Speaker Systems

  • 8-Speakers
Alpine Config

Alpine® Premium Audio System

Included

  • The Alpine® Premium Audio System provides crisp, clear sound for an enhanced listening experience. This 9-speaker system includes a rear subwoofer and a 552W, 12 channel amplifier.

I’m wondering the same thing. I would love to have this but I already installed the recline kit. Not sure if it would fit or not.
