Are the side panels really necessary? Looks like all you really need is top and seat back panel

Damn, that's a shame. I wonder how the side panel will affect the sub acoustics
From what I’ve read on here it is NOT good. But they are shipping sub compatible panels to those who have the alpine package. I’m sure it’s not going to sound great, but then again I need the security, so I’ll put up with it.

I am opting for something a little different. I have been working with the people at truck vault to get something made for my JLU Sahara. My logic is instead of piecing together something I would just have it built my way.

I want something that is bullet proof with no gaps for people to try and pull back or stick their arm through as well as some method of organization. This will also lift up hinged at the back so you can still access your cargo storage area and/or jack. I am going to use it to store my tools that I usually keep in a tool bag in the rear area and always worry about as well as a few class 3 weapons.

any update on this? I am thinking of something similar, was going to take an existing draw set from another company and attach it to a hinge and mount as well. the one I saw was 36"W x 26"D x 6"H, but was about $700!!
thanks!

Well.. all 3 of my Tuffy decks got destroyed by UPS. Shipping only one state over.. it looked like it had been traveling for days.
Once the boxes got destroyed, it allowed the parts to shift around. This caused gouging on powdercoat, tore off the rubber molding, and the molding on the decks peeled off on 2 of them, allowing shredded styrofoam to stick all over it’s sticky side.
All 3 items would need new molding and touch up paint. I could just not accept this.
Looks like a DIY project is coming up.

Anyone using this with the husky trunk liner? It looks like it might fit in this, hard to tell.

One other question, How hard is this to add and remove? If I just wanted to go topless for a weekend, is this something I could add/remove with only 15/20 minutes of work? Don't necessarily need this installed when I have my top on but it would be awesome to have when the top is off for a bit.

Thanks!

It should easily take 15-20 min setting up and breaking down.

Since the Husky liner extends all the way to the full area of the floor I'm sure the deck would install on top of it.

The top can be removed in seconds.
The entire enclosure can be remove in less than five minutes and be reinstalled in less than ten minutes.
I might remove mine in the winter but having the shelf to separate cargo is nice.

Hopefully they rework it quickly, it’s the 1st I planned on doing to my new JL.

I have been waiting for them to make the Alpine version as well, hopefully it is out soon. However, now I have another concern/question.... seeing the inside of the box and how the side panels mount to the tie-down bolt... what happens when you have the trail-rail system like I do? Does anyone know if this will attach to the trail-rail? or would I need different hardware somehow.

I sort of the like the ares ones that just form a plate over the entire back area from the deck
no sides

Aries are really nice.
For me, the Tuffy works better. Having the deck for a second flat level of storage when the hardtop is on in nice and it is easily removable with no tools.
Aries can also be used under the hardtop but to remove the Aries you would have to remove the hardtop and you will need tools to remove the deck itself.
I'm not sure if Aries is available for the JL yet.

Just a thought all, new here but wrt to both acoustics and additional mounting points. (And running out of money) I went the 3/4” cabinet grade plywood route then herculined with good results. In the end cost me 43$ for a nice sheet and about 35$ for herculiner, then finally roughly 10$ for mounting hooks for the top. I built a cabinet box that matches flush to the read door and is “locked down” to the 6 lashing points internally via hitch pins... between the bed liner and wood construction I’ve found my subwoofer sound to remain pretty darn good. After purchasing my compressor, lights and winch a lock box simply didn’t fit my current budget. I’ll try and post photos later. My plan is to mount my ARB inside it and route the intake filters out the top of the box. Figured this buys me quieter performance, maintains cooler intake air and now am thinking about an external tank. I originally thought a 1 gallon adjacent (in the box) but am thinking about a 2.5 gallon under mounted between the drive shaft and catback... on the fence here but there is just so much space there. :). Just in case there are others out there like me who spent wildly elsewhere and came up short for cool solutions like the smitty and tuffy box, and I really love both of those a lot!
