Thoughts on Advanced Safety Group

I ordered the standard safety group but left off the ASG for a few reasons. One, is that I will likely be driving a different vehicle on long freeway trips. Two, my first mod will be replacing the front bumper, adding a winch and towing ability. Three, another expensive electronic system that I have never had that could be a headache.

I'm sure for those that do a lot of highway driving, it would become a loved feature.

Same can be said about button-activated lockers and sway disconnects, but that's silly, end of the day it's just another tool in the box for those who are okay with nice-to-haves.

I don't agree. Driving requires a level of involvement and focus that many of these new technologies simply remove.

The key difference is we are surrounded by thousands of other people on the freeway, everyone barreling at 70 MPH with only seconds to do the right thing.

Adding the technology does not remove anything, you're applying a generalization across every driver which is just not true. Individual drivers will have to remain cognizant of their driving experience. Personally, I wish they'd institute mandatory driver tests for every 5 to 10 years so we can weed out some of the bad drivers, I say some because it'd probably get only the ones too old to be driving and not the habitual texters or inattentive. I'd also prefer more of these "nanny" features in other vehicles to keep grandpa from pushing me off the road as he weaves across the lanes, or god forbid, has a heart attack and slams into some carload of innocent kids.

The key with this technology is it reacts within milliseconds, clearly a boon since we take seconds to react. An accurate generalization is that not every driver responds to incidents with the same reaction speed and these tools can help equalize that.

I have a different opinion... it's does the opposite of what's its supposed too. Makes driving more stressful as you always have to babysit it. Too many false positives.

I have it on my Jeep, and my 2 other drivers. With the way people drive these days every little bit helps.

Technology always advances with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, the human tendency is overwhelmingly to views these technologies, intended as safety aids, as mere conveniences that reduce our physical and mental effort.

Just pay close attention to the traffic around you on the freeway. You can tell the vehicles with the nannies engaged: they are the ones driving like mindless drones, totally checked out.

I like my fancy internets and horseless carriages.

highly recommend for the rush hour and stop and go traffic. Also on those long road trips . It was savior in a thunderstorm where i couldn’t see anything but it maintained a perfect distance behind a semi.

Absolutely worth the money. I couldn't afford it. I set a budget for myself and stuck to it and now I'm kicking myself that I didn't spend an extra $2k because you need to buy two things. I love adaptive cruise control.

My wife's 2016 Ford fusion has the auto hi-beams and I hated them in the city. They were constantly turning on and off and just became a distraction so I disabled them on the driver 2 settings. They work really well now that we live in a much more rural area.

That being said, I didn't order any of the safety group stuff. Generally, I feel it is all uneccessary and a waste of money. I've lived in large cities and small rural town and have driven anything from large trucks pulling trailers to motorcycles and have never been in an accident. At the end of the day, nothing beats being a situationally aware and attentive driver. It's the reason I hate the move towards touchscreens in vehicles. They look cool and technologically advanced but they require you to take your eyes off the road to do anything.
