I do not believe this to be the case. Merely remove the Tazer from the SGW and reconnect the SGW cables as Aonarch says. Done deal.

I hope you're right. I recall the instructions (which I don't have here) saying in big red letters that you must reboot with any changes, including unmarrying, and you must unmarry anytime you remove the Tazer. Anyone want to weigh in?

You do the same with the Tazer for the things the Jscan can do. Its the extra stuff the Tazer does like the auto stop start memory, or sway bar disco/lockers in 2h/4h that you need to leave it plugged in for.

So yea if you just want to set a dfferent tire size/gear ratio/tpms setting the Jscan is the way to go

Sway and locker in 2hi is a game changer! With rear locker, i found myself not needing 4hi in a lot of situations.

Exactly. You only need to unmarry if you are concerned with the changes you've made and your dealers service department.

Actually, Joe @ ZAutomotive himself is on again and off again in regard to whether it is best to unmarry the Tazer JL before you update the firmware.. His usual answer is to unmarry before a firmware update.

In more then one, past phone conversations with me, he has told me it is best to unmarry but then occasionally in internet posts he says it is no big deal if you do not.

It may be that because of the past problematic Mac utility that was in the mix, he'd say it was best to unmarry.

Anyway, yes, it is best to unmarry before a firmware update. Doing so is undoubtedly best as it lessens the chance of lets say issues.

There is a YouTube ZAutomotive Tazer capabilities video about the need to remove the tazer for temporary service. I have done it myself, just for experimentation. It works, easily with extension cable to remove the tazer and plug things back in. No reboot prior to removal, no need to unmarry. The only difference is no live options and code entry to unlock security during start (Jscan does not have that).

One thing I will do is obtain AlphaODB to modify settings that Tazer enables for Auto High Beam, but does not fill in extra bits required to make it functional. Here is what is needed to allow tazer addition to radio settings High Beam in the menu to work.

Geeeez .... It's real obvious when reading a few of the recent posts in this thread that guys either never have read the Tazer JL instuctions authored by ZAutomotive throughly/carefully or if you have, you have forgotten what you read.... or misunderstood what you read.

I encourage guys/gals running with a Tazer JL to read the instructions over carefully..

Even though I feel I am quite Tazer JL savvy, I still occasionally reread the instructions to refresh my memory... and geeez, once in a while (not that often over the last couple of years) Joe changes his instructions or adds to them, etc..

Anyway, do take the time to read the instructions. Always seek out and read the most current set of instructions found at the ZAutomotive website:

I’m always open to correction if you have insight that is helpful. I know you may be tired of repeating yourself for the 100th time but I appreciate it. I do read the tazer instructions even though I don’t find them to always be straightforward and watch their YouTube videos.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to repeat/to repost the Tazer related knowledge I have spewed over the last 6 or so years.

Years ago I had the time to post lots and also, I was financially compensated by a few of the current and past sponsor(s) for my time posting here... but no more.. I just do not have the time..

As for the instructions coming out of ZAutomotive... I personally have always felt they were pretty decent..and straight forward.. Far far better then product instructions coming out of SuperChips, ECRI, etc..

Anyway, to all... read the Tazer JL instructions again and again.. Watch what you read in forum posts.. verify verify what you read... Even verify/double check what I post...

I always unmarry the Tazer anytime I remove it ( which is almost never). Whether it’s needed or not, I don’t care. All I know is I haven’t had one single problem with the Tazer in 6 years. So you know, if it ain’t broke…….

i do the same…out of an abundance of caution and because @Roky said so I unmarried and removed it once for a dealer warranty repair. It takes no time at all.

Firmware update is very different from simply unplugging it while the vehicle is off.

Is English Joe's first language? He seemed to communicate well when he was on the forums, but the instructions that his company publishes are pretty bad. They've improved over the years, but they're still pretty damn bad.
