My point exactly!!! Always, always bring a sacrificial "friend" with a soft top Wrangler so that doesn't happen to you!!!
I was slightly concerned about taking my soft top to Ouray. Then I remembered the many pictures from RMNP of sedans getting their doors ripped open and thought, "a soft top costs less than a door probably."

The bear left it alone, we did have a bear container with all of @SadRobot food in it inside my Jeep, I think it wanted the Dawn dish soap because it has a cute baby duckling picture on it. That was in a tote outside of the Jeep.

When you finally get the opportunity to get to the site you sent me, be bear aware. :jk: It is really awesome back there though!

I use an Alien mesh Sunshade, which has been in there for two years. There's just enough mesh to make a significant difference in sun/heat comfort, and makes a really big difference with wind and wind-noise, especially with the doors off.

The open mesh is a lot different than Safari mode. For me, If I'm taking the window panels out, I'm dropping the whole top anyways.

This particular shade attaches using ball-bungees, and while you can drop the windshield to make installation easier, this came with a thin plastic tool to fish the bungees through. The bungees tend to pull the shade to the middle of the roll cage height-wise, so you do lose some headroom. I'm 6' tall, average build, and my head doesn't touch it. Some baseball hats I wear do, but not all. YMMV.
Ditto. Alien Sunshade migrates toward the center height of the roll bars and did become an annoyance with lost headroom. I'm 6' 1". Absolute no-go with a hat on. Finally removed the front shade panel and then realized how much it helped with heat insulation during summer 100+ temps. Nice to see other shade types here that install ON TOP of the roll cage.

Mine's sitting basically brand new in the zipper pouch it came in.

The Jeep I test drove before ordering mine had a set in. It was nice, so I thought I'd order a set as part of my pre-delivery parts list.

But, after taking delivery and the first open air experience with only the panels off, I tried it once with just the front seat sunshade in. It just didn't feel right, so it's been in the "extra" parts bin in the garage since 😅

We'll be in Ouray this weekend. Hopefully we don't get rained out!

A neighborhood dog comes to our back door just about every morning at about 10am to see if our dog can go out to play with her. The other night we saw her running up and down our road playing with a bear cub!

How does the friend with no top factor into this?

Exactly like having a "friend" that's slower than you when you're running from a bear.
But he has no doors to bend or top to break? And if he follows simple rules for camping with bears - like stringing up your food - then there's nothing enticing in his Jeep, so...

Can bears read the rules?

I love my sunshade. Yes it obstructs upward views but it also obstructs cancer and sunburns.
Sunburn sure but Cancer? Cancer from the sun has increased exponentially since the invention of Sunscreen. Kind of odd. Yet people in rural/remove areas and are outside far more suffer far less from "Sun/Skin" Cancer than people in cities.

My dad developed skin cancer as someone who would often lay out for extended periods of time floating in their pool to unwind. It does happen. Science has proven that extended exposure to uv rays from the sun can cause skin cancer. It's not really a debatable fact.

I was lucky enough that when I bought my JLUR Used, it had a blue SpiderWebShade installed already...the ONLY drawback is if someone is inside the jeep and wants to stand up (eg. riding in a parade or at the beach) you can't since it is not easily removed. Besides that, I love it!

We don't do parades, but I did have to take off the mini gun.
